Some classes are really close to earning their next MAYFLOWER so we look forward to hopefully celebrating with them next week.

Stars of the week

Each week in our Friday Celebration Assembly, we celebrate our stars of the week. Each class teacher chooses 2 children from their class each week who have really impressed them. Here are the children who have been chosen this week.

Nursery & Reception

Ada has been chosen as Star of the Week for Nursery this week. Ada knows how to follow the school rules, she sets a good example to others, and encourages them to make the right choices. She is very good at helping the others to come to compromises when they are working together.

Our first Star of the Week for Reception is a wonderful friend who helps everyone get along! She always has a mature attitude towards helping resolve little disagreements amongst her friends. She helps to create a happy and harmonious atmosphere in the classroom with her calm and thoughtful nature. Thank you for always being so considerate of others - you truly help us to keep the peace. Well done Luna 🙂

Our second Star of the Week for Reception consistently shows kindness and understanding towards his peers, which helps to resolve conflicts between friends. He always does this with his cheery smile and fantastic sense of humour which brightens everyone's day.  He has a fantastic ability to see other children's perspectives which makes everyone feel included when they are around him.  Thank you for helping keep our classroom a kind and caring place with your thoughtful actions. Well done Noah 🙂

Year 1

This week we have been learning about being a 'Peace Keeper'. Our stars of the week both do their best to be just this! They are both extremely lovely boys who are brilliant friends. They set a good example of what it is to care for others, and how to play fun and fair games. Aaron is always looking out for who may be upset or worried and does whatever he can to help them. Whilst Reggie is so considerate of others and really knows how to share and take turns.

Year One is lucky to have such wonderful friends and peace keepers in our class!

Year 2

This week, we have been celebrating the 80th Anniversary of VE Day and those who brought peace to Europe. In light of this, we have also been thinking about the peacemakers who bring  peace and unity to our classroom and playgrounds.

George and Patrick are two children who always want everyone to be happy. They go out of their way to include others and try to make everyone smile. If there is conflict between other children, they encourage them to make up and play together. If someone needs help, they let an adult know. They both protect and encourage the younger members of our school too. They are both fantastic peacemakers and wonderful friends!

Year 3

All of Y3 are Stars of the Week!

The children have been amazing on Residential at Austerfield!

Their manners have been exceptional and they have supported each other and helped each other all day and night! They have worked incredibly hard on their team building  and communication skills.

We are so proud of all of them!

Year 4

Belle - Belle is an amazing ambassador for peace and always strives to create a calm and positive environment for learning. She consistently supports her peers and can identify when someone needs help. She is an amazing friend and always seeks help from adults if she feels it is necessary to help them.

James - James is always focused and ready to learn. He always comes in with a positive attitude towards learning and is committed to achieving to the best of his ability. He regularly offers help and support to others and can identify when this is needed. James had some amazing ideas about how to create a calm and peaceful community this week.

Year 5

This week, we have been celebrating the 80th Anniversary of VE Day and those who brought peace to Europe. In light of this, we have also been thinking about the peacemakers who bring peace and unity to our classroom and playgrounds.

Seth and Oliwia are two children who go out of their way to include others and try to make everyone smile. They are both kind and caring, and sensitive to the feelings of others. If there is conflict between other children, they encourage them to resolve their issues and help them to find a peaceful solution. They are both fantastic peacemakers and wonderful friends!

Year 6

This week in school, we have celebrated VE80; it has been lovely to celebrate this momentous occasion with members of our school community. In light of this, adults have been paying particular attention to those children across school who are 'protectors of peace' - those children who help to make and maintain peace across school to ensure that we do things the 'Mayflower Way'. This week's Stars of the Week in Year 6 have been chosen with this in mind.

Vinnie - Vinnie is a kind and compassionate member of the class who believes in fairness and equality for all; he contributes to making our class a harmonious, peaceful place to be, by ensuring that he takes on board the feelings of all others. He often takes on the role of mediator between people who may be in conflict or have differences of opinion and always makes sure that others are accepted and included. Thank you, Vinnie for all that you bring to Year 6.

Jack R - Jack is a thoughtful, considerate member of the class who always listens to the views and opinions of others. When conflict or disagreements occur between other children, he remains impartial, listening to and trying to understand the perspective of others before offering constructive advice about how to move forward. He stands up for others when they need it and makes a valuable contribution to the peace of our class.

Headteacher Award

Each week in our Celebration Assembly, Mrs Powell chooses someone who has really impressed her during the week and presents them with her Headteacher Award trophy.

This week’s theme was ‘Be a peacemaker’ and following on from our lovely VE day celebrations, this amazing superstar seeks to bring peace to all in school, in her classroom and outside. Well done Elizabeth, you are kind and caring to others. You are considerate, honest and are a wonderful listener too. Thank you for all you all do to be a peacemaker within our school community.

Makaton Sign Of The Week

The children are continuing to learn Makaton's 'Sign of the week' each week. Each Monday, the children learn the new sign for that week. We thought it would be useful to share the following week's sign with parents/carers on our Friday blog so you can get involved too if you wish. Please click on the link below to see the sign for the coming week.

VE Day Celebrations

We have celebrated the 80th anniversary of VE Day this week. On Wednesday, we held our family picnic in honour of the event. Thank you to all those who were able to make the picnic - it really is lovely when we can all get together as one big Mayflower family. Thank you to those who have given feedback on how much they enjoyed the event. We always love welcoming our families into school and look forward to doing so again in the near future. We will share some photos of the picnic on next week's blog and also on our X account.

Thank you to those who bought raffle tickets and refreshments at the picnic. The raffle was drawn this morning during our celebration assembly - well done to our winners! The raffle raised £148 and the refreshments raised £35.80. This money will be used to provide additional experiences for our children.

As part of our VE Day celebrations, we created a memory board with photos and information about some of our children's ancestors who were involved in the war. The information provided was amazing and thought-provoking and the children involved were certainly very proud of their family members.

Congratulations!

Evelyn in Year 4 took part in the Yorkshire Open Gymnastics competition in York last weekend. Evelyn achieved a bronze medal for the vault, a silver medal for the floor and to top it all off along with her team mates won gold and became team champions in the team event!

Wow Evelyn! What an amazing achievement! To take part in such a big competition is fantastic in itself, but to come away with one of each colour medals too is phenomenal. We know your family are extremely proud of you and so are we - well done!

Rosa in Reception took part in a dancing competition recently. Rosa loves her dancing and did such a good job, coming third! As Rosa won a medal she has been chosen to take part in a bursary competition which is very special.

Rosa told us that her favourite thing to do in dancing is pointing her toes. She has lots of friends at dancing and dancing makes her very happy. Congratulations Rosa - what a superstar you are!

Local Music Project

Some of the team behind the Bawtry Arts Festival are looking to launch a project to develop music education and engagement for adults within the locality to embrace and take part in future festivals. The project is called “It’s Never too Late”.

The team see this as a 3 year project with the intention to organise a regular series of workshops to encourage people to get a better understanding and appreciation of all types of music. The next phase would entail group sessions for singing or learning to play an instrument with the hope that those involved would take part in demonstration concerts at future festivals.

Some funding has been secured to kick start the project over the next year with a series of workshops. The team are looking for people to help develop this idea and take it forward. Does anyone feel that they could positively contribute to this project and be willing to get involved in some way? The team needs help with ideas and shaping its direction.

If you would like to get involved or have any ideas/suggestions, please get in touch with John from the team at j.linsley@sky.com

An initial meeting is being planned for the near future and further details will be circulated once the date and time of the meeting has been set.
