Stars of the week
Each week in our Friday Celebration Assembly, we celebrate our stars of the week. Each class teacher chooses 2 children from their class each week who have really impressed them. Here are the children who have been chosen this week.
Nursery
Franklin has been chosen as our star of the week because he has been challenging himself in using positional language this week. He has worked with Miss Limb and been using words like below, above, under, next to and following instructions using those words. Miss Limb was super impressed with him!
Archie has worked really hard this week and challenged himself to lots of new things. He is showing improved confidence and is much more willing to try and have a go at things. He is using his words and language a lot more to communicate with others. We are really proud of the progress that Archie has made. Keep up the great work!
Reception
This week’s first star has been challenging himself brilliantly over the last couple of weeks! We have loved watching him try new things and having a go, even when the work looked a little bit tricky. He has shown a fantastic can do attitude, giving everything his best effort with a big smile. He has been using different resources to help himself write more independently, showing real determination and growing confidence. He has also been helping his friends to have a go at our maths challenges in provision, showing them what to do and giving them a helping hand. The best part has been seeing how proud he is of himself, we are just as proud of him too, well done Ronnie ๐
Our second star of the week has grown in confidence over the last term and has shown us how resilient he can be when facing a challenge. He has shown us that when you take a deep breath, give something a go, and keep trying, anything is possible! Whether it's in phonics, maths, or during provision, he doesn’t give up; he has kept going with a big smile and is his own biggest cheerleader. His confidence is growing every day, and his hard work inspires his friends too. Well done Hugo ๐
Year 1
This week, we have been thinking about ways we can challenge ourselves.
Archie has challenged himself to take part in lots of our class activities this week and has been really successful! He has joined in with our World Book Day activities, breakfast with a book and lots of other learning too. We have loved having him with us at lunchtimes in the dining hall and during assemblies too. Keep up the great work, Archie.
Sometimes, coming into school and leaving mum or dad can feel daunting and scary. Hugo has challenged himself to overcome his fears and take that step into class. Once inside, he has been able to join in with class activities with a smile on his face. He has proven this week that no matter how difficult it may feel, when you do something that feels scary and succeed, it is well worth the effort. Well done, Hugo.
Year 2
This week, Louis T has impressed everyone in class with his amazing effort, determination, and positivity. Even when the learning has been tricky, he has kept going and given his very best, all with a huge smile and his infectious energy. He has completed every task he was asked to do and has shown real perseverance in his work. It has been wonderful to see him push himself and tackle challenges with such determination and positivity. Well done Louis, it's been lovely to see your confidence soar! Keep believing in yourself - you can do it!
Daniel G always tries his best in class, and since the start of this term he has really challenged himself, continuously putting effort into all his learning. He has shown fantastic effort in every lesson and has kept going, even when things have felt tricky. We’ve been so impressed with his knowledge of Samuel Pepys and the Great Fire of London, and even more impressed by how hard he has worked to get his ideas down on paper. He shared some amazing ideas and showed real enthusiasm for the topic. It has been wonderful to see the effort he has put into his work, and even more wonderful to see him entering the Year 2 classroom with a smile. Well done, Daniel - you’ve really impressed us.
Year 3
Joshua has shown how determined he is this week. He has worked incredibly hard in class, particularly in Maths lessons with fractions work. Joshua has really pushed himself to complete all of the work set and has completed all of the challenges. He was proud of his work and we were so proud of his effort and determination. Well done, Joshua!
Mia works hard and challenges herself in every lesson. She asks for advice when she needs it and takes this on board to make sure that her work is the best it can be. Mia always finds ways to improve her work and is an excellent partner for other children. Keep this up, Mia!
Year 4
Oscar S - I have been really impressed with Oscar this week. He has challenged himself to be the best version of himself. He has tried hard in all lessons but I have particularly noticed his enthusiasm towards both maths and humanities this week. Oscar has shown a keen interest in learning about volcanoes and can explain how they are formed and how they erupt with ease! Keep up the hard work.
Logan - I have been so proud of the effort Logan has put into his work this week. He has produced the best piece of writing I have ever seen him do. He has also challenged himself in maths and I've been extremely impressed with his knowledge of decimals. Keep it up.
Year 5
"Believe you can and you're halfway there" (Theodore Roosevelt)
Edward consistently challenges himself in his learning and shows great perseverance when faced with difficulties. He approaches challenges with a positive attitude and determination, working hard to overcome obstacles and achieve his best. Well done Edward, keep up the hard work!
This week, Fletcher has shown a fantastic attitude towards his writing; he has worked incredibly hard and has challenged himself to produce his best work. His effort and determination have been wonderful to see. Well done Fletcher, we are all very proud!
Year 6
The focus across school this week has been on those children who challenge themselves to do, and be, the very best that they can, whether this be academically, in lessons, or challenging themselves to always do things the Mayflower Way and act with kindness and respect. This week's Stars of the Week in Year 6 have been chosen with this in mind.
Mason - Mason challenges himself in all lessons across the curriculum to ensure that the work completed is always to a very high standard. When given the choice of challenge, he is a reflective learner who considers his own strengths and areas for development, carefully choosing activities that he knows will challenge him and enable him to progress further. He is accepting of feedback from adults and peers, acting upon this to make continual improvements and demonstrating the motivation to progress even further.
Amelie - Amelie challenges herself in every lesson across the curriculum. She always completes challenges and activities set to the very best that she is capable of and is always striving to push harder and achieve more. She asks for advice and feedback from adults and her peers, always acting upon this to make her work even better and she will keep working, even into break times, if she thinks that she can do more or improve her work further. Because of this, Amelie has made such progress in her learning across the curriculum this year and I could not be prouder of her.
Headteacher Award & Shout Outs
Each week in our Celebration Assembly, Mrs Powell chooses someone who has really impressed her during the week and presents them with her Headteacher Award. We have had a wonderful week of reading events linked to the year of reading; world book day, breakfast with a book, Danum Read Aloud and cosy up with a book! It’s been lovely to see so many children loving the pleasure of a story. My superstar award today goes to someone who inspires others in how they can challenge themselves to be better friends. She also gives fantastic advice to help others when needed too. Well done Olive on your award this week; you really do make a positive difference to everyone’s day.
My ‘shout-outs’ for giving 100% to the MAYFLOWER WAY this week go to Oakley (Rec), Archie (Y1), Fox (Y2), Natalie (Y5) and Fletcher (Y5),. Congratulations also go to Ava (Rec) and Axel (Rec) who received shout-outs last week but were missed off the blog. Well done to everyone!
Makaton Sign Of The Week
The children are continuing to learn Makaton's 'Sign of the week' each week. Each Monday, the children learn the new sign for that week. We thought it would be useful to share the following week's sign with parents/carers on our Friday blog so you can get involved too if you wish.
Access to school
Following on from our general and direct messages, some parents/carers are continuing to park in the school car parks. As this is causing safety and access concerns, we will be blocking access to the drives from Monday 9th March onwards.
Please therefore ensure that you park safely and considerately in the streets surrounding school unless you have prior permission to park in the car park. Please do not park on the zig zags at the front of school; these are there to ensure that those crossing with and without the Crossing Patrol Warden, can see a suitable distance to check for traffic before crossing.
Thank you for your cooperation in helping us keep our school community safe.
Keeping safe in and around school
Please ensure that when dropping off/collecting your child from school, they stay with you to ensure their safety. We have had incidents this week of children accessing the out of bounds wooded area near the Foundation building (this area has an uncovered area of water in it) and climbing the fences and walls around school. Keeping your child with you will ensure that this doesn't happen.
As above, thank you for your cooperation in helping us to keep everyone safe.

Parents Evening
Parents evening for this term will take place on Wednesday 25th March in our lower hall. The appointments will be available to book on School Spider from 8am next Wednesday, 11th March. Places do fill up fast, so please ensure you book as early as possible to secure your preferred appointment time.
If your child has a Special Educational Need, separate meetings are usually set up for this outside of the parents evening appointments. If this is the case, your child's teacher should be in touch regarding this.

Easter Church Service
On Tuesday 17th March, Year 1 to Year 6 will be walking to St Nicholas' Church in Bawtry after morning registration for our Easter Service. If you would like to join us to walk to and from the church and join in the service with us, please come to the school office once you have taken your child to class. We are usually back at school for approx 11am after the service has finished.
Rocksteady Concert Wednesday 18th March 2pm
We are really looking forward to our next Rocksteady concert of this school year, which takes place on Wednesday 18th March starting at 2pm. The children have been working incredibly hard and it will be a real treat to watch them showcase their learning.
If your child currently takes part in the Rocksteady sessions that are held in school and you will be attending the concert, please ensure you arrive at the school office in plenty of time to sign in so that the concert can start as close to 2pm as possible.
World Book Week
This week we celebrated World Book Day by having a full week of activities. We started the week off with the children taking part in West End workshops, culminating in a fabulous performance of ‘Pinocchio’ at the end of the school day. We held our ‘breakfast with a book’ sessions and invited parents/carers into school to enjoy some breakfast with their child whilst reading their favourite stories. Boggledybook Children’s Bookshop joined us with a fantastic array of reasonably-priced books. All the children took away a book for World Book Day too. We celebrated World Book Day itself by having a pyjama day – as you can imagine, the children loved this! Finally, to end a fantastic week full of reading fun, we held our Danum Read Aloud competition. Our school reading ambassadors had the difficult task of judging those who entered and chose their finalist, who will represent our school at the Danum Read Aloud final on 26th March. Good luck!

Mae from Year 5 wanted to share with us that she has recently found a real love of reading diary-style books. She has read 11 books in 4 months, which is fabulous! It's really lovely when children find a style of book that suits them and Mae now reads whenever she gets the chance. Well done Mae!

Hill House Spelling Bee
Rose and Daniel from Year 5, together with Darcy, Sophia A and Harry from Year 6 took part in the annual Hill House Spelling Bee this week. This year's competition was the toughest yet, with some extremely hard words to spell. The children all took part in the written round first - the standard was so high that for the first time, all the children who successfully spelt all the words correctly took part in a second written round. Following this, Rose from Year 5 was successful in making it into the final, which was a series of spoken rounds.
All the children did amazingly well; not only with their spelling, but also in conquering any nerves they may have felt having to go up on stage in front of children and staff from other schools plus all the parents/carers who had gone along to support them. As always, our children were a delight to be with - they were polite, well-mannered and incredibly kind and supportive to both their team-mates and children from other schools.
We are already looking forward to taking part next year!

Grange Lane Food Hub
Grange Lane local hub, based at Grange Lane Infant Academy in Rossington, are running a discounted food service for families, whereby £35 worth of food is available at a reduced cost of £8.50. It is a membership scheme, but is free to join and there is no commitment. Please click on the link at the bottom of this page for further details.
Thank You!
Following our plea on last week's blog for help with our sensory circuit trampoline, we would like to thank the family who provided a brand new trampoline for us. We never expected this and are extremely grateful.
Our PTA has recently applied for a Tesco grant so we are hopeful that if we are successful, our PTA can secure some additional funds to provide some 'extras' for our children. Tesco also has a community fund and has used some of this fund to provide chocolates and sweets for our PTA to use as part of their Easter Egg hunt which takes place just before the Easter holidays. Thank you to our PTA as always for supporting us in so many different ways and thank you to Tesco for giving us a helping hand.

Chinese New Year Lunch
Thank you to Mrs Stanfield and Miss Thomas, who decorated the hall and served a fabulous Chinese lunch yesterday to celebrate Chinese New Year. The children, including our Nursery children, enjoyed all the food available. There was plenty of choice so that everyone could have something that they wanted. As you can see, the children thoroughly enjoyed it!

Lunch Menu for week commencing 9th March 2026
Please see the menu below for next week. Mrs Stanfield, our School Cook, will continue to monitor the children's likes and dislikes and there may be changes to these menus in light of these.

New menus will be in place from week commencing 20th April 2026. Mrs Stanfield is currently going through these to check that they are the right meals for our children, as she knows which meals will be popular and which won't. As soon as the menus are finalised we will publicise them on our website and send them out to parents/carers via School Spider.
