Stars of the week
Each week in our Friday Celebration Assembly, we celebrate our stars of the week. Each class teacher chooses 2 children from their class each week who have really impressed them. Here are the children who have been chosen this week.
Nursery & Reception
This week's star of the week in Nursery goes to Tiana. Tiana is always very responsible, she looks after the resources in our classroom, she follows the school rules, joins in well with group work and is a really grown up and sensible member of our class.
Our first star of the week for Reception has been doing fantastic listening and following instructions this week. He has made sure he has been ready to learn and been on task showing us a big smile along the way. He has been working so hard on making the right choice this week when in provision which all the adults have recognised. Well done Ronnie 🙂
Our second star of the week in Reception this week has blown us away in maths. She has made sure to give reasons for her answers explaining why it is important to share out a number of items equally and noticing how numbers of objects can be grouped together. She has been a super star at quickly recognising odd and even numbers as well. Well done Emily 🙂
Year 1
Skyla - This week we have said over and over again "Wow Skyla, you are on fire!!" We are so pleased with how hard Skyla has been working and the incredible respect she is showing. She is listening so carefully and it is really showing in her learning- she could name all 5 oceans and show me where they are on a map! Keep up the hard work, Skyla. You are a star!!
Fox - Fox has had a wonderful start to the new half term. He has been showing kindness and wonderful sharing. It is wonderful to see him working so well with others and enjoying tasks. Fox has showed amazing determination during maths this week. We have been learning division, which can be tricky when you first learn about it, but Fox tried again and again to solve problems until he found it easy-peasy lemon squeezy! Well done, Fox. We are very proud of you.
Year 2
This week we have been thinking about the importance of being respectful.
Isla has shown that she is a very respectful girl towards adults and children alike. She is polite and courteous towards others, always remembering to say please and thank you. She went out of her way to care for a child who was upset this week, comforting them and making them feel better.
Daniel is one of the politest members of the class. He never interrupts and waits patiently to speak when someone is talking. His manners are impeccable - he is a true gentleman.
Well done Isla and Daniel!
Year 3
Bret - Bret is always polite and well-mannered in class. He uses excellent manners in the classroom, he waits patiently to speak to adults without interrupting and listens carefully when he is talking to someone else. Bret demonstrates respect and good manners every day! Thank you, Bret!
Keira - Keira is polite all of the time to both children and adults. Politeness and respect come naturally to Keira and she shows this every day in the classroom, on the playground and in the dinner hall. She is an excellent role model to others! Thank you, Keira!
Year 4
Skaila-Mai: Skaila has high levels of respect for all of our school community. She can collaborate effectively with all of her peers and understands when others need her help and support. When talking to members of staff, Skaila consistently communicates in a respectful manner and is always polite. Her positive attitude towards learning is helping her to make amazing progress. Keep it up.
Lily E: Lily is a shining example of doing it the Mayflower Way. Her positive attitude and high levels of respect make her a pleasure to teach. She is always ready to learn and consistently respects our school rules. She is a role model to her peers with her outstanding behaviour. Keep it up.
Year 5
"A person's a person, no matter how small." Dr. Seuss
Katie demonstrates respect in school on a daily basis. She is kind to others and is happy to take responsibility for jobs she has been asked to do, carrying them out in a mature manner. Katie shows respect by listening attentively during whole class discussions and to her peers.
Rory is invariably respectful. He is kind and sensitive and knows that some people may think differently to himself. Rory demonstrates respect by always following the class/school rules and thoughtfully listening to what others say.
Year 6
This week in school, our focus has been on one of our hugely important school rules: respect. We have been looking for those children across school who demonstrate this on a daily basis - showing respect to all members of our school community, to our school building and to all resources within it. This week's Stars of the Week in Year 6 have been chosen with this in mind.
Alicia - Alicia embodies this important school rule every single day. She shows the utmost respect to all members of our school community, not differentiating between her close friends and our younger children or between familiar or more unfamiliar adults. She acts with integrity at all times, regardless of whether there is anyone else around or not. She always listens to others when they speak and values and respects all opinions, even if they differ to her own. She is an exemplary role model in school and we are very lucky to have her in Year 6.
Cameron - Cameron is a considerate and respectful member of Year 6 who acts with integrity every single day, always treating others the way that she would like to be treated. Cameron speaks respectfully when communicating her thoughts and ideas with others and she actively listens to the views and opinions of others, showing kindness and consideration for them, even if they differ to her own. She is an exemplary role model in school and we are very fortunate to have her in our class this year.
Headteacher Award
Each week in our Celebration Assembly, Mrs Powell chooses someone who has really impressed her during the week and presents them with her Headteacher Award trophy.
My superstar award, to start the half term, goes to Henry in Year 6. He works hard each and every day but most importantly does this with utmost respect for all the adults that work in school. What a fine young man you are becoming and your self-reflection helps others when they are finding things tricky too. You really live out our core school values every day. Much deserved award Henry, well done!
Makaton Sign Of The Week
The children are continuing to learn Makaton's 'Sign of the week' each week. Each Monday, the children learn the new sign for that week. We thought it would be useful to share the following week's sign with parents/carers on our Friday blog so you can get involved too if you wish. Please click on the link below to see the sign for the coming week.

Contacting school
If you need to contact your child's teacher or pass on a message for that particular day, please call the school office (01302 710721) rather than sending an email. We provide a timescale of 48 hours to read and provide an initial acknowledgement to any emails received. Whilst we do endeavour to respond well within this timescale, this is not always possible during busy times in the school office.
A response will then be provided by the school office or passed on to your child's teacher for them to look at and provide a further response.
No Crossing Patrol Warden 6th to 11th June
Just a reminder following on from our email earlier this week that we have been advised by Doncaster Council that there will be no Crossing Patrol Warden on Station Road from the afternoon of this Friday 6th June up to and including the afternoon of next Wednesday 11th June. Sue, the Crossing Patrol Warden, will return next Thursday 12th June.
PTA Gifts for a loved one shop Thursday 12th June
Our fabulous PTA team will be holding their next event, their 'Gifts for a loved one' shop next Thursday, 12th June during the school day. Items for sale at the shop will range from 50p to £3 and each class will have the opportunity to visit the shop.
If you would like your child to visit the shop, please make sure that they bring no more than £10 with them next Thursday morning please, as the office staff cannot guarantee that any money received after the start of the school day will make it to your child before they visit the shop. We would also appreciate it if siblings could bring separate money please, as the school office no longer has any cash to be able to split notes for you.
Thank you in advance to our PTA and helpers for enabling events such as this to take place.
Non-uniform Day Friday 13th June
Next Friday, 13th June, will be a non-uniform day. We would like to ask for donations of sweets or chocolate for the PTA's Treat Tombola Stall which will be part of the Summer Fair on Thursday 19th June please.
We appreciate that not everyone can donate something, so there is no obligation to do so - the children can come in non-uniform regardless of whether a donation is made. However, if you are able to donate something next Friday this would be greatly appreciated, so that our PTA can raise much needed additional funds for school.
