Stars of the week
Each week in our Friday Celebration Assembly, we celebrate our stars of the week. Each class teacher chooses 2 children from their class each week who have really impressed them. Here are the children who have been chosen this week.
Nursery & Reception
Our first star of the week in Reception has shown us determination whilst having a go at a new skill and keeping on trying when he found it a little tricky. He was so proud of his achievements when he had finished sewing his face including beads for eyes, a mouth and hair! He has such a positive can do attitude, well done Isaac 🙂
Our second star of the week in Reception this week is a fantastic friend to all of reception; she is kind, caring and always conducts herself in the Mayflower way. She works exceptionally hard in all areas of her learning putting in the maximum effort and pride in all that she does. Well done Luna 🙂
Year 1
Evie – for showing incredible courage and positivity in her learning. Evie has bravely embraced every challenge this year, always giving new things a go- even when she’s found them tricky. She approaches every task with a big smile and boundless enthusiasm, which is such a joy to see. Well done, Evie! We are so proud of everything you’ve achieved!
Holly – for growing in self-confidence and believing in herself. Holly has shown such amazing courage and determination this term! She is starting to believe that she can do anything she puts her mind to. Holly has come into school all by herself this week, showing just how brave and independent she is becoming. It’s been so lovely to see her confidence soar. Well done, Holly, we are so proud of you!
Year 2
This week, we have been demonstrating how we can be courageous.
Moving to a new Year group can seem very daunting as we get to know new teachers, new classrooms and, for Year 2, new buildings. All of Year 2 have participated in transition activities this week and all have shown so much courage. There have been two children in particular who have faced their worries and fears head on, taking a deep breath and giving transition their best shot. I am truly proud of all of the class, but special mentions and our Stars of the Week this week go to Rares and Matthew.
Year 3
Noah D - Noah has shown real courage when improving his work this week. He knew that his work could be improved and he did everything he could to make it the best it could be. He was resilient, hard working and very courageous! Well done, Noah!
Annie D - Annie has worked hard over the last few weeks and has put all of her effort into her work. She has shown real courage when attempting work that she is not as confident with and has really tried her best. Keep pushing yourself, Annie!
Year 4
Our theme this week was be courageous. Year 4 did this in abundance on our residential to Hollowford. One of the amazing instructors repeatedly told the children, "You can't be brave without being a bit scared." We talked about how to harness this fear and to push ourselves to be brave, bold and courageous. My two stars of the week this week are Natalie and Rose.
Natalie was an expert when it came to canoeing. She was courageous and ensured that the team in her canoe were in time, pushing them forwards and motivating everyone to keep going.
Rose modelled being courageous for the entire trip! Every time she came across something challenging, she reminded herself that she can do anything and... SHE DID!
Year 5
“Never let the fear of striking out get in your way.” -Babe Ruth
Charlotte - This week, Charlotte has shown courage during transition. She has been raising her hand to ask inquisitive questions, which demonstrates her growing confidence. Charlotte has also shown a positive attitude towards making mistakes, recognising that getting an answer wrong is part of the learning process. Well done Charlotte!
Katie - This week, Katie has shown courage in writing lessons. She has demonstrated resilience and a commendable ability to learn from setbacks, showing maturity when faced with challenges. Well done Katie!
Year 6
This week across school, our focus has been on one of our important Learning Powers: Be courageous; the adults in school have been looking out for those children who have shown courage through their actions. This week's Stars of the Week in Year 6 have been chosen with this in mind.
Gracie-Leigh - Gracie has shown courage this week in preparation for transition to secondary school; she has taken responsibility for her own transition and has completed additional activities to ensure that she is as prepared as she can be for the move to secondary school in September. You've got this, Gracie and you'll be amazing.
Jace - Taking accountability and responsibility for yourself and your actions is one of the most courageous things that you can do and Jace has done just that this week. He has shown that he is a reflective and mature member of the class and has made Year 6 staff smile this week with his positive and considerate attitude.
Headteacher Award
Each week in our Celebration Assembly, Mrs Powell chooses someone who has really impressed her during the week and presents them with her Headteacher Award trophy.
This week’s theme was ‘Be courageous – Be You!’ linked to our transition programme. This amazing superstar has certainly had a journey this year showing courage and taking on an amazing role of one of our Art Ambassadors and helping Mrs Davies at our Creative Station event this week.
Thank you, Bret – you truly deserve this award!
Makaton Sign Of The Week
The children are continuing to learn Makaton's 'Sign of the week' each week. Each Monday, the children learn the new sign for that week. We thought it would be useful to share the following week's sign with parents/carers on our Friday blog so you can get involved too if you wish. Please click on the link below to see the sign for the coming week.

Big Talk Education in school Friday 11th July
Just a quick reminder that Big Talk will be coming into school next Friday 11th July. They will be delivering Relationship Education throughout school (Nursery to Year 6) through their Growing up Safe programme. You should have received a letter and email providing more information about the Big Talk team and what will be discussed in the sessions.
Uniform orders for September
We are now accepting orders for uniform for September. If you would like to order any uniform ready for September, please log on to ParentPay to order your items before Friday 11th July.
The uniform will then be available to collect from the school office on Friday 29th August between 8am and 3pm.
We cannot guarantee that any orders received after Friday 11th July will be available for collection before the children start back in September, so it is really important that you order on time.
If you order any uniform and the item is for your child to have this term rather than for September, please email admin@bawtrymayflower.doncaster.sch.uk to let us know.
Toys from home
We would appreciate it if the children didn't bring in toys from home please. We are finding that toys are sometimes getting lost, which understandably causes upset for the child particularly if the toy is very special to them. We also wouldn't want any toys to get broken.
Special Delivery!
Year 2 have been busy writing letters recently. The letters were all posted and we have started to get some replies back. We have had a reply back from the King himself, which was very special! Equally as special were the replies we received from Julia Donaldson and Mrs Davies' daughter Jenna. Jenna even included an original painting in her letter - thank you Jenna!
We are hoping to have more replies back before the end of term and will share these on upcoming blogs.

Last weekend, Gracie-Leigh, Lilly and Olivia were on the mats again for a Taekwondo competition at Doncaster Dome. After last weeks Bronze medals this time they all struck GOLD! Olivia was first up against some tough opposition. The match was very entertaining indeed and Olivia’s persistance and excellent technique earned her a win in both rounds.
Gracie-Leigh was next up and was in control from start to finish, winning both her rounds comfortably.
Last but not least was Lilly. Her speed and determination was second to none and she also won both of her rounds.
Three excellent performances from the Bawtry girls, which helped Gainsborough/Bawtry Scorpion Taekwondo to win 14 gold medals and 3 silver medals on the day.
Well done girls! You really are shining stars! Keep up the hard work.
