Arriving late to school
This week we have been monitoring lateness very closely. Individual emails have been sent this morning to those parents/carers whose children have been late on one or more occasion this week. As a reminder, the doors open at 8.35am and close at 8.40am prompt to allow the register to be taken. If there is any particular reason that your child is arriving at school late and you wish to discuss this further, please pop in to see us.
Stars of the week
Each week in our Friday Celebration Assembly, we celebrate our stars of the week. Each class teacher chooses 2 children from their class each week who have really impressed them. Here are the children who have been chosen this week.
Nursery & Reception
In Nursery this week, Oakley has been chosen as star of the week as he trying really hard to be a good friend. Oakley can be very kind and caring to others in the class. He will try and help them when they are feeling sad or struggling to do something.
Our first star of the week for Reception this week has grown in confidence over this year and it has been lovely to watch her form new friendships. She enjoys sharing and taking part in activities making sure her friends are included. She has a super sense of humour and is always making her friends smile and laugh. Well done Dahlia 🙂
Our next star of the week for Reception is a person whose caring nature shines through every day. He looks out for his friends making sure they don't feel sad if they have hurt themselves and he makes sure everyone always has somebody to learn and explore with. He is a fantastic listener and takes time to consider others ideas and feelings even if he doesn't think and feel the same as them. He is always honest and this shows as he takes time to make sure all his friends are doing the right thing and helps them do this by being a super role model. This person has a heat of gold and is a fantastic friend to everyone. Well done Oscar 🙂
Year 1
Aliza-Mae - This week we have been thinking about being a good friend. Aliza is a shining example of this! This week we have seen her happily invite others to play with her, use kind words, take turns, and just have a good old giggle with her friends! Aliza shows interest in others and always shows that she is pleased for others when they are successful. You are a wonderful friend to all, Aliza-Mae!
Louie W - This week in school we are thinking about how to be a good friend and we absolutely HAD to choose Louie! During Pupil Voice, the children were asked "Who inspires you to be a good friend?" Louie's name came up again and again and again from the children in Year 1! He is so kind, funny and caring that all the children have noticed and feel lucky to have a friend like him. You certainly are an inspiration, Louie.
Year 2
This week, we have been thinking about what it takes to be a good friend. So many children in Year 2 show care and compassion for others, making it difficult to choose only two. So, I turned to the children for their views. During Pupil Voice, the children were asked who inspired them to be good friends. Henry and Daniel nominated two people from the class.
Henry said, "Gabe inspires me to say sorry and look after people if they are hurt." This really does sum up how thoughtful, kind and caring Gabe is - all the time! Thank you for being a great friend to everyone, Gabe.
Daniel nominated Reuben, saying, "He is kind and respectful to me so he inspires me to do the same to him and other people." You really are a fantastic role model to your friends, Reuben. Thank you for being so kind.
Year 3
Jacob - Jacob has shown that he is a really good friend this week. He is a great friend but also the most supportive partner in class! He is an excellent role model to the other children. Thank you Jacob!
Joseph - Joseph has inspired the whole class to be a good friend this week. He is kind and caring and his friends benefit from this. He notices when someone needs a friend and he is always there for them. Thank you for being such a great friend!
Year 4
Olivia - Olivia is an extremely supportive partner. She constantly offers support and guidance to others to help them to achieve. She is always helping out members of staff in school, offering her own time to do jobs and it is very much appreciated. Olivia is a kind friend and is always honest. She can empathise with others well. Keep it up.
Mason - Mason has had an amazing week this week - he has worked his socks off in all lessons, particularly writing. I have never seen him produce so much work in a lesson! He was so proud of his work and the adults in school were even prouder. Mason is an amazing friend and always has a smile on his face.
Year 5
Frankie - Frankie is kind and thoughtful; he always celebrates the achievements of others and supports his peers on their learning journeys. He will always try to boost his friends' confidence with encouragement, particularly when they encounter challenges. Thank you for always being everyone's cheerleader!!
Darcy - Darcy is thoughtful and considerate; she always looks out for other people and often puts others before herself. She is a friend to all; demonstrating kindness all the time through the things she does and the things she says. She always treats others the way she would like to be treated. Thank you for always being you!!
Year 6
Our focus across school this week has been on one of our incredibly important school rules: Be Kind; adults across school have been noticing those children who go above and beyond to show kindness and compassion to others and to just be a good friend! This week's Stars of the Week in Year 6 have been chosen with this theme in mind.
This was so hard to choose this week as there are so many amazingly kind and wonderful children in Year 6 and their friends are incredibly lucky to have them, but this week, I have chosen the following as my stars:
Ava B - Ava is an incredibly kind and compassionate member of Year 6. She shows kindness to all others and goes out of her way to cheer her friends up or make them laugh when they feel a little upset. She is supportive and loyal all the time and our classroom would not be as happy as it is without her. Thank you for being you, Ava.
Valentina - Valentina is a ray of sunshine in Year 6. She always has a smile on her face and this makes others smile too. She is kind to every one, all of the time and shows thoughtful compassion and consideration for others. You make our classroom a happier, brighter place to be, Valentina and it wouldn't be the same without you.
Headteacher Award
Each week in our Celebration Assembly, Mrs Powell chooses someone who has really impressed her during the week and presents them with her Headteacher Award trophy.
This week’s theme was ‘Be a good friend’ and this amazing superstar has done this every day since she started. Keira (Year 3), you make everyone smile and bring joy to your friends, the classroom and around school. You are considerate, honest and are a wonderful listener too.
Makaton Sign Of The Week
The children are continuing to learn Makaton's 'Sign of the week' each week. Each Monday, the children learn the new sign for that week. We thought it would be useful to share the following week's sign with parents/carers on our Friday blog so you can get involved too if you wish. Please click on the link below to see the sign for the coming week.

VE Day Celebrations
We are really looking forward to our family picnic next Wednesday 7th May from 12 noon to commemorate the 80th anniversary of VE Day. We would like those coming along to bring a picnic lunch with them. Those children who usually have a school dinner will be having a picnic lunch that day, as will those children who usually bring a packed lunch from home whose parents/carers completed the online form which was sent out recently. If you didn't complete the online form for whatever reason, your child will just need to bring their packed lunch from home as normal next Wednesday please.
Our Nursery children and their families are also invited to this event. Please collect your Nursery child as normal at 11.40am and then come round to the school office to be let through into the school grounds. Picnic food will be available for those nursery children whose parents/carers completed the recent online form.
For others attending the event, please enter school via the Station Road entrance (all other gates will be locked) and come to the school office between 11.45am and 12 noon to wait in the picnic area for your child. Please make sure that you arrive by 12 noon at the latest, as the office staff would like to enjoy the celebration along with the rest of school.
Please bring a picnic blanket with you.
There will be refreshments available to purchase, as well as a raffle for which tickets will be sold during the event and the draw done at the end of the event.
Following on from the picnic, you are welcome to take your child home should you wish; alternatively, children can be collected at the end of the school day as normal.
We would like to create a memory board for the occasion. Was a member of your family involved in the war, perhaps as a member of the armed forces or even evacuated during the war? If so, we would like to include them on our memory board. Please bring/send in a photo/letter/postcard etc - anything that you would like to enable us to celebrate your family member.
We would also like the children to come in non-uniform next Wednesday please - red, white and/or blue if possible but it doesn't matter if not.
The children will be performing Vera Lynn's 'We'll Meet Again' with British Sign Language at the end of the picnic. Here is the link if you would like to join in on Wednesday.
