Stars of the week
Each week in our Friday Celebration Assembly, we celebrate our stars of the week. Each class teacher chooses 2 children from their class each week who have really impressed them. Here are the children who have been chosen this week.
Nursery
Dominic has been chosen as star of the week because he has been trying out lots more new and different things in the classroom that he wouldn’t usually choose. He has also enjoyed working with Miss Limb doing some of his activities. Along with this he has been using his prompts to help him move from one activity to another and using more words to communicate his interests.
Lacey has been chosen as star of the week because she has been a superstar all week! She has been really helpful to the adults and is always really polite and chatty. Lacey can always be relied upon to do what she is asked to and always meets the expectations that are put on her. She always makes the adults feel proud of her effort.
Reception
This week’s star has impressed us with how reflective he always is during our lessons. His ideas show such a kind hearted understanding of the world around him and he has a real sense of belonging within the world. He shares what it means to be part of a community and how this can help other people in our school and wider community such as caring for our environment by sweeping up, picking up rubbish, caring for his friends in the classroom and being respectful of their thoughts and feelings. Well done Teddy 🙂
Our second star of the week has shown wonderful understanding and curiosity during our RE learning. He has been amazing at comparing his own thoughts and experiences with those from different religions, noticing similarities and differences in special objects they have such as candles and a place of worship. He can share thoughtful ideas that help his classmates to have a sense of belonging and to value the beliefs of everyone in our community. Well done Billy 🙂
Year 1
This week, we have been thinking about children who are reflective in RE lessons and whose work demonstrates this. Dahlia and Ada always lead the way in our RE lessons. They are genuinely interested in learning about other people, how they live their lives and how their beliefs shape the way they live. They can make comparisons between different religions and practices and their own beliefs. They love to share their thoughts with others and help others understand too.
Thank you for being so reflective and enthusiastic, Dahlia and Ada.
Year 2
Our Stars of the Week are David and Otis, who have been true superstars in RE.
They have really impressed us with the thoughtful way they approach their learning. They listen carefully when exploring different religions and beliefs and take time to reflect on what they have heard. They ask insightful questions to deepen their understanding and consistently show respect for other people’s ideas and viewpoints.
In their learning, they think carefully about how everyone is unique and why this is something to be valued and celebrated.
Well done, David and Otis - you are fantastic role models, and we are very proud of you both!
Year 3
Emilia works hard in all RE lessons and has shown a real interest in learning about the Muslim faith. She has asked questions to find out more information and is always engaged in the RE lesson. Emilia has also started to make links between Islam and Christianity. Keep being curious Emilia!
Reuben works hard in all RE lessons and has shown a real interest in learning about the Muslim faith. He has asked questions to find out more information and is always engaged in the RE lesson. Reuben has also started to make links between Islam and Christianity. Keep working hard Reuben!
Year 4
Both Laroti and Leo have shown a keen interest in our Sikh topic, learning about the Guru's. They can explain how a Guru was chosen and are knowledgeable about the eleventh Guru, the Guru Granth Sahib. During RE lessons, they ask questions, support others and have begun to compare the beliefs of different religions.
Year 5
"Empathy is seeing with the eyes of another, listening with the ears of another and feeling with the heart of another."
Maddison shows a real enthusiasm for RE and engages confidently in class discussions. She listens carefully to others’ views, builds thoughtfully on ideas shared, and consistently shows respect for different religions and beliefs. Maddison is reflective in her thinking, and she provides meaningful insights into different beliefs and perspectives.
Evie clearly enjoys RE and actively participates in lessons, contributing thoughtfully to class discussions. She often continues conversations beyond the lesson, showing genuine curiosity and interest in the topics explored. Evie listens carefully to others’ views, builds thoughtfully on ideas shared, and consistently shows respect for different religions and beliefs.
Year 6
The theme across school this week has been upon reflection. Adults across school have been noticing those children who are able to reflect thoughtfully on their own beliefs and opinions, in addition to reflecting on beliefs and views that may be different to their own. This week's Stars of the Week in Year 6 have been chosen with this in mind.
Frankie and Joe are highly reflective learners who always listen to the views and opinions of others. They listen carefully and contribute to whole-class and group discussions in RE lessons and show the utmost respect when talking about values and beliefs that may be different to their own. They show this same level of respect when working with others with differing opinions across the curriculum and they always seek to understand lived experiences of their peers and members of the wider school community.
Headteacher Award & Shout Outs
Each week in our Celebration Assembly, Mrs Powell chooses someone who has really impressed her during the week and presents them with her Headteacher Award. Our assembly on Monday was all about ‘Clever Never Goes’ and how the children should never go anywhere without letting a trusted adult know where they are going and who they are going with. We talked about responsibility and looking out for others. My award this week goes to Owen (Yr3) for his always attitude to this and how he always shows a responsible attitude towards tasks, roles and looks out for his friends too. Well done Owen, a quiet and humble superstar, but your hard work and attitude does not go unnoticed!
My ‘shout-outs’ for giving 100% to the MAYFLOWER WAY this week go to Fox (Y2), Oakley (Y2), Luke (Y2) and Sam (Y3). Well done!
Makaton Sign Of The Week
The children are continuing to learn Makaton's 'Sign of the week' each week. Each Monday, the children learn the new sign for that week. We thought it would be useful to share the following week's sign with parents/carers on our Friday blog so you can get involved too if you wish.
World Book Week
Next week, we will be celebrating World Book Day all week, as we love our books and reading here at Mayflower. On Monday, we will be joined by West End in Schools and the children will be joining together to perform an exciting, vibrant version of the much-loved Pinocchio story.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, we have invited parents/carers into school for our annual 'Breakfast with a book' sessions from 9am to 10am. Letters went home with the children earlier this week regarding these and places have been pre-booked. There will be a raffle on both days, with the opportunity to win some book prizes.
Also on Wednesday, we have Boggledybook Children's Bookshop in school. They will be staying until 3.30pm should parents/carers wish to come and have a look at the books with their child after school.

On Thursday, which is World Book Day, we would like to invite the children to wear their pyjamas to school.
Finally on Friday, we will be holding our Danum Read Aloud competition. Our school reading ambassadors will be judging those who have entered and choosing their finalist, who will then represent our school at the Danum Read Aloud final on 26th March.
We are looking forward to a fantastic week full of reading fun!
Names in uniform please
There were 4 bin bags of uniform last half term, which we weren't able to reunite with their owners due to the items not having names in. This uniform has been split between charity and our PTA for their preloved uniform store. If all these items had names in, we could have handed them back to their owners.
Please help us (and your bank balance!) by labelling all items of uniform/PE kit going forward.
Easter chocolate raffle
From next week, we will be selling raffle tickets for our Easter chocolate raffle priced at £1 per strip of 5 tickets. We have started to receive donations for the raffle; if you would like to donate any Easter eggs/chocolate/sweets these would be most gratefully received and can be brought to the school office. The raffle prizes are on display in the main entrance to school, so please add your donations to the table.
Easter Church Service
On Tuesday 17th March, Year 1 to Year 6 will be walking to St Nicholas' Church in Bawtry after morning registration for our Easter Service. If you would like to join us to walk to and from the church and join in the service with us, please come to the school office once you have taken your child to class. We are usually back at school for approx 11am after the service has finished.
Wraparound Care
Please see below the latest flyer from First Step Active Care, who run the breakfast and after school club held in school. For any queries regarding the wraparound care, please contact First Step directly using the details on the flyer.
The latest information about wraparound care is also shared on the 'Wraparound care and holiday club' page on our school website.

Can anyone help us?
As part of our sensory circuits in school, we utilise a variety of equipment, including a trampoline. As the trampoline is one of the favourite pieces of equipment used, the protective cover surrounding our current trampoline is damaged beyond repair.
We were wondering whether anyone has one of these trampolines that they no longer use that they would be willing to donate to school please? If you do, please contact the school office.
Are you looking for some part-time work?
City of Doncaster Council are currently looking for a part-time cleaner to join the team here at Bawtry Mayflower. For further information please contact Ian Taylor, Metro Clean Manager, on the details he has provided below.

'Understanding your child' course starting at Mayflower

Congratulations!
Over the last month, Mae from Year 5 has attended two different dance competitions and won a total of 3 gold, 1 silver, 2 bronze and 2 4th place medals. Mae was also asked to dance again in the adjudicator's choice section at the end of the last competition. Mae loves her dancing and clearly has a great talent for it, judging by the medals! Well done Mae!

Axel in Reception has been loving his swimming lessons and was recently awarded with his 200m certificate. Wow Axel, that's a very long way for you to swim! What a superstar you are - well done!

Chinese New Year lunch Thursday 5th March
As part of our Chinese New Year celebrations, Mrs Stanfield our cook is making a special lunch next Thursday. The menu for that day is as follows and replaces the normal menu choices shown on the full menu below for next Thursday only.
Chinese chicken curry, Quorn curry, egg fried rice, noodles and peas followed by a cookie.
Children who usually bring a packed lunch have been invited to take part in this meal next Thursday - the link to the online form to book this was sent out to parents/carers earlier this week. For those who usually have a school dinner, there is nothing further for parents/carers to do; these children will receive the meal as part of their school dinners. We have also invited our Nursery children to take part and the link to the online form was also sent out to parents/carers earlier this week.
