Stars of the week

Each week in our Friday Celebration Assembly, we celebrate our stars of the week. Each class teacher chooses 2 children from their class each week who have really impressed them. Here are the children who have been chosen this week.

Nursery

Alfie has shown that he has been really courageous this week. He has been really hesitant to hold the chicks all week. Yesterday when the lambs came to visit us at school, despite being initially a bit wary and not wanting to go near the lambs, he was eventually persuaded to have a go, and found the courage to give one of the calmer ones a stroke.

Isabelle has really impressed the adults this week. She is showing a lot more confidence and courage in trying out things for herself. I have noticed that she is trying really hard with writing her name. Miss Limb was really impressed with how she drew the chicks and could talk and explain in detail what she could see.

Reception

This week’s first star has shown fantastic courage while caring for our animal visitors in school! At first, he felt a little nervous around the chicks, but he didn’t give up. He watched carefully, practised being gentle and soon became confident enough to pick them up, stroking them with more care and so much pride! He even helped to feed them, fill up the water and change their bedding. Then he met the lambs and absolutely fell in love! He stroked them saying "gentle" after remembering from the chicks and watched the Mummy sheep carefully noticing that "it wants it baby". He loved them so much that he didn’t want to leave them. We are so proud of your bravery, your gentle hands and the love you have shown to our animal visitors this week. Well done Joe 🙂

Our second star has amazed us with her bravery, positivity and smile! Starting a brand-new school can feel a little scary, but she has shown incredible courage from the moment she arrived. She has already started to make new friends, join in with our class activities and learn all of our school routines like she has been here since September! We have loved watching her explore the classroom and try new activities with a fantastic can do attitude. We are so proud of how brilliantly she has settled in. What a wonderful start to your Mayflower adventure, Linnaea 🙂

Year 1

This week, Miss Gregory has chosen our Stars of the Week based on those children who have shown courage, just like St. George.

Sophia has had the courage to be more independent in her work this week. She has really tried to believe in herself and attempt tasks on her own, rather than relying on others to show her the way. She should be as proud of her growing confidence as we are. Well done, Sophia!

Oscar has shown courage this week by having a good go at his learning tasks, even when he has found it tricky. He kept trying, listening carefully, and showing bravery by not giving up. Well done, Oscar!

Year 2

This week, our Stars of the Week go to two wonderful children who have shown fantastic courage in their learning and in the way they care for others.

Nova and Lucy particularly impressed us during maths. Whilst working on one and two-step problems, they found the learning challenging, yet showed great determination as they worked together and shared their ideas. What stood out most was their courage to recognise when they needed help and confidently ask an adult for support. They also show courage every day by speaking up for others, making sure their friends are safe, and telling the truth, even when this is difficult. You are both shining examples of what it means to be courageous - we are very proud of you!

Year 3

David has had a fantastic week this week. He has shown courage in many ways, with his actions outside and inside the classroom. David has challenged himself with very difficult learning this week and he was brave enough to give this work a go even though he knew it was difficult. He has worked hard in every lesson and has done this with a positive attitude and a smile. Well done David!

Isla has had a fantastic week this week. She always has a positive attitude towards her work and she challenges herself. She has shown real courage in class when supporting  other children with their learning and kindly reminding children of the expectations of the classroom. Well done Isla and thank you for being brave enough to stand up for the people you care about!

Year 4

This week, I am so proud of Isaac. He has shown how being courageous can help you to succeed. He has pushed himself out of his comfort zone and this has enabled him to make great progress in his writing. Isaac has shown determination and a positive attitude towards learning. Keep it up Isaac.

This week, Libby has shown real courage. She has ensured that she communicated effectively with adults so that they understand what she is thinking and how she is feeling. I am really proud of you Libby!

Year 5

“Courage is doing what you’re afraid to do. There can be no courage unless you’re scared.”

Thomas showed great courage during the residential, pushing himself to try new challenges and stepping outside of his comfort zone. He demonstrated resilience and a positive attitude throughout the experience. Since returning, Thomas has brought that same determination back into the classroom, applying himself well and trying hard across all areas of his learning this week. Well done Thomas, keep up the hard work!!

James showed real courage during the residential, overcoming many challenges, including being away from home for the first time. He approached new experiences with determination and resilience, growing in confidence as the week progressed. Since returning, James has continued to demonstrate a positive attitude and has been trying hard in all areas of his learning. I am so proud of how far you have come!

Year 6

This week across school, our focus has been on one of our important Learning Powers: Be Courageous; the adults in school have been looking out for those children who have shown courage through their actions. This week's Stars of the Week in Year 6 have been chosen with this in mind.

Katie has shown great courage in her learning this week, attempting difficult challenges, in maths in particular, and approaching them in a systematic, meticulous way. She always pushes herself outside of her comfort zone, choosing activities that she thinks will challenge her thinking as she knows that this is what will have the biggest impact on her learning and on the progress that she makes. You are determined and ambitious, Katie, and this is something that we really admire about you.

Harry has shown great courage in his learning this week, particularly during maths sessions, to push himself out of his comfort zone, working independently on complex puzzles and problems. He has begun to believe in himself more in this area of the curriculum and has really impressed visitors that we have had to school. I am so proud of you this week, Harry and remember: sometimes the only limit to what you can do, is the one that you put on yourself.

Headteacher Award & Shout Outs

Each week in our Celebration Assembly, Mrs Powell chooses someone who has really impressed her during the week and presents them with her Headteacher Award. This week’s theme was ‘Be courageous!’ linked to our assembly about St George and the Dragon. This amazing superstar has certainly had a journey this year showing courage and taking new risks and stepping out of her comfort zone. Well done Ellie H – we are all very proud of you!

My ‘shout-outs’ for giving 100% to the MAYFLOWER WAY this week go to Billy (Rec) for bravery, Otis (Y2) for friendship, Ottavia and Martha (both Y4) for kindness and Olive (Y4) for respect. Well done!

Makaton Sign Of The Week

The children are continuing to learn Makaton's 'Sign of the week' each week. Each Monday, the children learn the new sign for that week. We thought it would be useful to share the following week's sign with parents/carers on our Friday blog so you can get involved too if you wish.

Goodbye!

Today, we said a sad goodbye to our chicks. We have got so used to them being here, that it will feel very strange next week when they are not here. The children have loved watching the chicks grow and they have all been able to spend time with the chicks over the last 2 weeks. They have learnt about how to care for the chicks and have asked some amazing questions. Our Nursery children have done some fabulous drawings of the chicks this week and we thought it would be lovely to share some of these with our families.

More special visitors

Yesterday we had some more special visitors to school. Mrs Ronan, along with her parents brought some lambs to school! Each class had the opportunity to visit with the lambs and find out lots of facts about them. Everyone had such a wonderful time - we don't actually know who was more excited, the children or the adults!!

Thank you Mrs Ronan and your family for taking the time to bring the lambs in. We are really lucky to have had this experience again this year and are very grateful to you. We are keeping everything crossed that you will be able to visit again next year!

Food Access Survey

Doncaster Council want to make it easier for people to get healthy food that doesn’t cost too much. They are conducting a short survey as part of a project to learn what people in our community need. They are looking at different ways to help, like food vans, community food shops, and places where food can be picked up easily. Your thoughts matter. so the Healthy Lives team at Doncaster Council would appreciate it if you could complete the survey by either clicking on the link below or using the QR code on the poster below.
