Stars of the week
Each week in our Friday Celebration Assembly, we celebrate our stars of the week. Each class teacher chooses 2 children from their class each week who have really impressed them. Here are the children who have been chosen this week.
Nursery
This week in Nursery we have been reading ‘Stickman’. In the outdoor area the children have been making up Stickman dances using different movements inspired by the natural world around them. Rux has been chosen at star of the week as she has done some brilliant work with Miss Limb enthusiastically creating her dance and performing it with the other children.
Alma has been trying really hard this week to be extra kind to the children in Nursery. The adults have noticed that lots of the other children have been saying that Alma has been helping them do lots of different things in the classroom, such as helping with coats and bags at hometime and at snack time too.
Reception
Our first star has been a fantastic story teller this week! You have been confidently retelling the Stick Man story using the puppets, using your voice, actions and brilliant ideas. You have done all this with great enthusiasm and excitement, we have loved watching your imagination grow! Well done Ronnie 🙂
This week, we are so proud of this person for joining in with phonics lessons and growing in confidence each day. He has shown a can do attitude and had a go at things that he has previously found difficult. He has worked so hard to understand our routines and is taking part in new activities each day. Well done Joe 🙂
Year 1
This week, we have been thinking about our 'Community Heroes'.
Dahlia has demonstrated a passion for learning about belonging to a religious community. She loves to see how people from different faiths celebrate and practice their faith. She has an understanding of why people behave the way they do in order to belong to a religious community, and she loves to celebrate her knowledge with others. She has really shone in our RE lessons. Well done Dahlia!
Riley has proven himself to be a hero of our school community. He is so polite, kind and caring. He has demonstrated his empathy towards adults and children, giving them hugs and checking that they are ok if they have had an accident or they have been upset. You certainly are our Year 1 community hero. Thank you Riley!
Year 2
This week's Stars of the week is for two children who are 'Community Heroes'.
Luke for sharing such thoughtful ideas about how we can keep ourselves safe on the roads in our local community. He thought carefully about the dangers we may face and confidently shared his ideas which included creating signs for all the school entrances and encouraging others to use the zebra crossing at the end of Station Road when the Crossing Patrol Warden is unavailable. Luke's awareness and responsible attitude make him a super community hero.
Aaron for being a thoughtful and responsible member of our school community. He always takes great pride in keeping our classroom and playground tidy and encourages others to do the same. He also supports the younger children at dinner time, helping them to line up calmly when it's time to go in. Aaron's kindness and care make him a wonderful community hero.
Year 3
Emilia has worked incredibly hard again this week. She has supported other children in class with their humanities learning and supported adults in class by organising resources and tidying up to make sure that the classroom is well organised and resources are where they need to be. Emilia offers her help willingly and it is appreciated by everyone! Thank you, Emilia!
Mia tries her best in every lesson and has continued to do that this week. She is always very caring and volunteers to help anybody in class that needs it. She is excellent at organising resources for her table and she takes care to make sure that everyone has what they need. Mia helps everybody! She notices what needs doing and gets on and does it which makes the classroom run smoothly. Thank you, Mia!
Year 4
The focus across school this week has been on 'community heroes'. The adults have been paying particular attention to those children who are just that - making a difference to our class communities, school community or the wider school community.
This week's Stars of the Week in Year 4 have been chosen with this in mind:
Laroti is an excellent example of a community hero. In our classroom, he gave a fantastic speech to our class when putting himself forward to be Head Boy; his words were full of honesty and courage and I am so proud of him. Laroti advocates for everyone in our school community and is an excellent role model to all.
Ella is an excellent example of a community hero. She is an inspiration to others and always puts the emotions and feelings of others first, often before her own. Ella includes everyone and listens carefully to the voices of others. She gave a fantastic speech for Head Girl in our class and it was a pleasure to hear her speak openly about her views.
Year 5
"Community is much more than belonging to something; its about doing something together that makes belonging matter"
This week, we have been thinking about our 'Community Heroes'.
Logan has proven himself to be a hero of our school community. He is polite, kind and caring and always does things the 'Mayflower way'. He takes initiative and tries to organise things in order to make our school a better place. Keep up the good work Logan!
Olivia Finch - Olivia acts with kindness, supports her peers and stands up for others when she sees something that she does not agree with. She is excellent at organising resources and she takes care to make sure that everyone has what they need. She has proven herself to be a hero of our class community. Keep up the good work Olivia!
Year 6
The focus across school this week has been on 'community heroes'. The adults have been paying particular attention to those children who are just that - making a difference to our class communities, school community or the wider school community.
This week's Stars of the Week in Year 6 have been chosen with this in mind:
Sophia A - Sophia is an excellent example of a community hero. In our classroom, she always makes a positive contribution, going out of her way to ask if there are any jobs that need doing and she notices when something just needs to be done and does it, without even being asked. She gave a fantastic speech to our class when putting herself forward to be Head Girl; her words were open and honest and showed a great deal of understanding of herself and her difficulties and how this could affect others. Even when not successful in this plight, she showed acceptance and humility and we are so proud of her.
Joe - Joe is a quiet community hero who makes a huge impact on our classroom and school community just by being himself. He embodies our school rules at all times, setting an excellent example and being a positive role model for his peers and the younger children across school. He often takes a supportive role in group tasks and situations, supporting others who may take the lead and be more vocal but this role can not be underestimated and is equally important, if not more so, than taking charge and leading. I hope you know the difference that you make to our community and the impact you have, Joe.
Headteacher Award & Shout Outs
Each week in our Celebration Assembly, Mrs Powell chooses someone who has really impressed her during the week and presents them with her Headteacher Award.
We are always on the lookout for those children who go out of their way to ensure that they keep others safe and look out for others in their actions. This week’s Superstar Award goes to this amazing Mayflower pupil who does this from the heart, thinks about how people feel, and tries to make the difference when she can. She looks after those in her class and all around school too. You even have the wonderful ability of making a positive difference to everyone’s day – well done Jessica, thank you for always making dinnertimes fun too!
My ‘shout-outs’ for giving 100% to the MAYFLOWER WAY this week go to Jagoda, Keira L, Elliot and Daniel W.
Makaton Sign Of The Week
The children are continuing to learn Makaton's 'Sign of the week' each week. Each Monday, the children learn the new sign for that week. We thought it would be useful to share the following week's sign with parents/carers on our Friday blog so you can get involved too if you wish. Please click on the link below to see the sign for the coming week.
https://makaton.org/TMC/News_Stories/SOTW/SOTW_Television.aspx
Parking around school
Please be mindful of residents and emergency service vehicle access when parking on the streets around school. We have had several reports over the last week of cars being parked either blocking residents driveways or not providing enough space for anything to get past, including emergency vehicles. These reports have been regarding all the streets around school and number plate details have been passed on to the relevant authorities.
Poppy Appeal
Thank you to everyone who was able to contribute to our Poppy Appeal collection this year. We raised £268.51, which is an amazing total and the total raised overall for our local district was £1673.74.
Winter Warmer Project
Thank you to everyone who has donated out-grown coats, hats, gloves, scarves and Christmas jumpers/tshirts to our Winter Warmer Project. The items available are as follows:
Girls coats - sizes available are 3-6 mths, 6-9 mths, 2-3, 4-5 and Age 8

These items will be available in our lower building to collect before school each morning and after school each evening next week. Please come to the school office. You can offer a donation for the item on collection if you wish, but there is no obligation to do so. Anything left after next Friday will be donated to the ‘Action For the Homeless and Needy in Doncaster’ group.
As a reminder, during the winter months classes are planning on using our new outdoor classroom for learning opportunities such as orienteering and watching seasonal changes so this is an ideal opportunity to get something in preparation. Also, school will be having a Christmas jumper day on Christmas dinner day (16th December) and Party clothes day on the last day of term (18th December) which means you may already have had a chance to sort something new to wear.
Is your child a HERO?
As mentioned on last week's blog, next week we will be having a real push on encouraging all children to be Here, Every day, Ready and On time. Every child who arrives on time for school every day next week will be entered into a prize draw, with a chance to win a movie night hamper for the whole family to enjoy.
We hope everyone is up for this challenge - who will be our HERO this time?!

School Milk

Congratulations!
Ronnie from Year 1 recently made lots of yummy cookies to help his mummy's workplace raise money for Children In Need. The cookies must have been especially delicious, as Ronnie was the winner of the competition! Well done Ronnie!

Doncaster Knights vs Coventry Rugby
📅 Saturday 29th November
⏰ Doors and Bars Open at 12:00pm
⏰ Kick-off: 2:30pm
📍 Castle Park, DN2 5QB
The fourth home game of the new Champ rugby league season brings with it a tremendous level of excitement. With the Knights in impressive home form, winning ten of their last eleven home league matches, we would love to see as many students, staff, and families of your school to join us for our home league fixture against Coventry.
After an excellent run at the end of last season, that saw the Knights win an impressive twelve games in a row in league and cup, and some very good results and performances at the start of this campaign, including a recent victory against one of the promotion favourites, Worcester Warriors, the players would really appreciate your support to keep momentum going and experience the electric match day atmosphere at the Castle– completely free of charge!
If you would like any under-16s tickets for this game, please email admin@bawtrymayflower.doncaster.sch.uk by next Tuesday, 25th November.

Winter Activities
The team at Raring2go has asked us to share their Winter magazine and the following information with our families. Each edition of Raring2go! is packed full of family friendly editorial, events listings, quirky features as well as highly relevant family facing advertising. This advertising is aimed at informing parents of the wide range of activities available to them on their own doorstep and much further afield across the UK. These encourage children to get active outdoors and discover the natural world around them.
