Stars of the week
Each week in our Friday Celebration Assembly, we celebrate our stars of the week. Each class teacher chooses 2 children from their class each week who have really impressed them. Here are the children who have been chosen this week.
Nursery
The adults have been really impressed with Rux this week. She has worked independently to make a pair of binoculars, she persevered and showed focus and determination to complete the task. She showed determination when completing a maths activity using the Numicon. She has shown she is courageous by being more confident and chatty and collaborative by sharing her ideas with others.
The adults in Nursery have also been really impressed by Alfie this week. Alfie is very independent and loves to try and complete tasks with minimal help and support. He is always full of really great ideas, which he loves to share with others. He is inquisitive and always seeks to find out more by asking lots of questions. He works collaboratively with others and really enjoys working as part of a team.
Reception
This week’s first star has worked so hard in his writing! He has been challenging himself and using his Fred Fingers to hear the sounds in the words we’ve been writing. He has listened carefully, spotted lots of the sounds, and then had a fantastic go at writing them too. He has used a sound mat to check how to form his letters and has been a superstar at writing his name. It has been so lovely to see how excited he has been about writing this week, smiling from ear to ear and proudly sharing his work with grown ups around school. Well done, Lockie! We are so proud of you! đŸ™‚
Our second star has shown us the true power of friendship and patience. She is always such a gentle, kind friend, always taking her time to listen, help and make sure everyone feels included. Even when things take a little longer or someone needs extra support, she waits beautifully, shows understanding, and encourages others with her warm smile and kind heart. We are so proud of the thoughtful, patient and loving friend she is, making our classroom a more positive place to learn. Well done Izzy đŸ™‚
Year 1
This week we have been thinking about our own personal powers!
Jaycee has a special power of being a kind and caring sister. She always looks out for Jackson at school, making sure he has his belongings and everything he needs. She shows patience, care and consideration, as well as so much love. Being a great sister really is your super power, Jaycee!
Luna has so many powers: the power of friendship; the power of caring; the power of empathy; and the power of patience. Luna goes out of her way to show everyone the same care, consideration and respect. She always wears a smile which has the power to make everyone feel warm inside. Thank you for sharing your powers with us all, Luna!
Year 2
This week’s Stars of the Week are two children who have demonstrated the Power of Trying.
Both Darcy and Aliza-Mae have really impressed us over the past few weeks. They have been working incredibly hard in their writing, using everything they have learnt so far to produce work that truly shows off their abilities. They have done this with effort, determination and a positive attitude. Even when they have found things tricky and wanted to give up, they have kept going and shown just how important it is to keep trying.
As they have continued to do their best, their confidence has grown, and their smiles show just how proud they are of themselves. This is having a really positive impact on their learning, and we hope it continues.
We are so proud of the effort they are putting in. Well done, girls - keep up the excellent work!
Year 3
George has impressed us all this week with his focus and determination when completing his work. He thoroughly checked his work and made huge improvements which are due to his high levels of concentration and a determination to improve his work. George is an excellent role model to others as he tries his hardest in every single lesson! Well done George!
Owen has worked so hard this week. He is always quiet in class and always demonstrates a really positive attitude towards other people and his work. Owen has shown real determination with his class work this week and has focussed on making improvements where he can. Owen is an excellent role model to others in class and we are all very proud of him! Well done Owen!
Year 4
Oscar M has the power of patience. He accepts everyone and makes everyone feel a sense of belonging. He collaborates well with any of his peers, showing kindness and perseverance when supporting others. Oscar often puts the needs of others before his own and this does not go unnoticed. The adults in Year 4 have been really impressed with Oscar this week. You are a star.
Jagoda has the power of kindness. She has a special way of lighting up any room that she walks into. She ALWAYS asks how I am feeling and puts a smile on my face. Jagoda - you are a ray of sunshine in our classroom and around our school. All the adults in school notice how kind, caring and positive you are at all times. You are a star!
Year 5
"You're braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think." A.A.Milne
This half term, Lilly-Rose has demonstrated the power of hard work and determination. She has shown great determination in arithmetic, practicing regularly and learning from her mistakes, and it is really beginning to show in her learning. I have seen a real change in her attitude towards her learning, she is trying her best consistently and her hard work and determination to do better is really paying off. Keep up the good work Lilly!
Jesse, through the power of hard work, has more than doubled his arithmetic score this half term. He has shown great determination in arithmetic lessons, practicing regularly and learning from his mistakes. His confidence has grown so much in this area of learning and he should be really proud of himself! Keep up the hard work Jesse!
Year 6
This week across school, our focus has been on 'The Power of...' We have been looking for those children who use their powers for positivity, making our school a safer, happier, more pleasant place to be. This week's Stars of the Week in Year 6 have been chosen with this in mind.
Tamara has used her 'Power of Positivity' this week when working in all subjects across the curriculum. She has been open to feedback on her learning from peers and adults and has seen this as a positive way in which to improve and to get even better. She has shown an incredible 'can do' attitude and has not been deterred by setbacks and challenges. This increased positivity and resilience has been lovely to see and as a result, the skies really are the limit for what you can achieve.
Savana has used her 'Power of Communication' this week to talk openly about her thoughts, feelings and needs so that people understand. She has shown positivity this week about herself and her learning and it has been lovely to see her in class and around school with a huge smile on her face and a funny story or comment that has made me and her friends smile too. You are a fantastic advocate for yourself, Savana, so keep talking and, more importantly, keep smiling.
Headteacher Award & Shout Outs
Each week in our Celebration Assembly, Mrs Powell chooses someone who has really impressed her during the week and presents them with her Headteacher Award. The theme for this week was ‘share the power of …’ and assembly this morning was a wonderful culmination of so many different powers our amazing children have here at Mayflower. There was the power of patience, the power of kindness, the power of focus and even the power of friendship shared by staff. This week’s Superstar Award goes to a pupil who has been spotted being an advocate for all of these powers and demonstrated this yesterday when cheering up her friend who had fallen by giving her a special flower she had picked. It is so lovely to see children who live out these powers to support their friends. Well done Jaycee; you are a Superstar!
My ‘shout-outs’ for giving 100% to the MAYFLOWER WAY this week go to Lockie (Rec), Axel (Rec), Lucy (Y2), Jasper (Y2), George (Y3) and Owen (Y3). Well done!
Makaton Sign Of The Week
The children are continuing to learn Makaton's 'Sign of the week' each week. Each Monday, the children learn the new sign for that week. We thought it would be useful to share the following week's sign with parents/carers on our Friday blog so you can get involved too if you wish.

Grange Lane local hub, based at Grange Lane Infant Academy in Rossington, are running a discounted food service for all families, whereby £35 worth of food is available at a reduced cost of £8.50. It is a membership scheme, but is free to join and there is no commitment or criteria to join the service. We have had fantastic feedback regarding this service from our families who have registered so far and they would highly recommend it.Please see below for further details.

Parents Evening
Parents evening for this term will take place next Wednesday 25th March in our lower hall. There is still time to book your appointment on School Spider if you haven't done so already. If your child has a Special Educational Need, separate meetings are usually organised for this outside of the parents evening appointments. If this is the case, your child's teacher should be in touch regarding this.
Entry to parents evening will be via the main door near the school office. From 3.10pm onwards, please just pull the main door to enter and push it to exit - the automatic locking system will be turned off. Please go to the lower hall and take a seat on the benches in the middle of the hall to wait for your appointment time with your child's teacher.

Our team is dedicated to providing support, guidance, and signposting to additional resources if needed. There are no worries or concerns that are too big or too small.

Easter chocolate raffle
Raffle tickets for the Easter chocolate raffle will be on sale in the school office before and after school until next Friday morning (Friday 27th March).

Easter Church Service
On Tuesday, we visited St Nicholas's Church for our Easter Service and what a fantastic service it was. The singing was as amazing as ever and the readings that the children did were outstanding. Well done everyone!
We hope those of you who could join us enjoyed yourselves too. We had some lovely feedback about how caring and supportive our older children were to those who were younger, particularly some of our Year 6 children. This lovely feedback has been passed on to Miss Dunn to share with the children.
Rocksteady Concert
On Wednesday, we held our Rocksteady concert for this term. The children have been working extremely hard for Sarah and Adam, their band leaders, and all their hard work showed during the concert. Each band worked wonderfully together and their performances were all amazing! Thank you to everyone who was able to attend the concert - we always have such great support from our parents/carers and this does not go unnoticed. We hope you enjoyed it and are looking forward to the final one of this school year in the Summer.
Down Syndrome Day Sunflower Challenge
To celebrate World Down Syndrome Day on 21st March, we are taking part in Down Syndrome UK's Sunflower Challenge. Each class will be planting and caring for some sunflower seeds; we will be watching the sunflowers grow during the countdown to World Down Syndrome Day and beyond. Year 4 have enjoyed planting their sunflowers this week.

Trans Pennine Trail Easter activity pack
The Trans Pennine Trail team has asked us to share their Easter activity pack with our families. Please see the message below from the team.
Our brand new Kids Easter Activity Pack is filled with fun nature‑themed activities, crafts, recipes and puzzles for families to enjoy during the holiday. It’s a great way to inspire children to get creative, explore the outdoors, and learn more about the outdoors and the Trans Pennine Trail.
With colourful characters leading the way, this activity pack inspires kids to discover spring wildlife, get creative, and enjoy the magic of the outdoors as it wakens up after its winter slumbers. There are opportunities to share their adventures and to earn a digital certificate.
The packs are ideal for Key Stage 1 and 2, but there’s something for everyone. They’re perfect for use on the Trail, in your local park, or even indoors on a rainy day. Every pack is designed to help everyone learn, play, and make memories while exploring the outdoors.
