Stars of the week
Each week in our Friday Celebration Assembly, we celebrate our stars of the week. Each class teacher chooses 2 children from their class each week who have really impressed them. Here are the children who have been chosen this week.
Nursery & Reception
This week we have chosen all of Nursery as Stars of the Week for being absolute stars and doing brilliant teamwork and great collaboration during their activities and races. All the staff are so proud of them all!
This week we have chosen our super stars for brilliant team work. They have shown kindness towards each other supporting their friends in each different sports day activity. They have also been so proud of each other for having a go at new things and keeping on trying when they've found it difficult. This week our stars are all of reception, we are super proud of you, well done!
Year 1
Lucy - Lucy is an incredibly kind, patient and thoughtful girl. We are so lucky to have her in our class. She is a great friend to everybody and her smile brightens up any room! Keep being your wonderful self, Lucy!
Hugo - Hugo is a brilliant friend. He is so kind to both the adults and staff. He has a 100 watt smile that is infectious! And this week he made Mrs Birkinshaw laugh until she cried... what more can we ask for- kindness and a good giggle?! You are wonderful, Hugo.
Year 2
This week, Patrick, Emilia, Seren, Max, Mia, Ellie, Evie, Isla and Blu-Belle joined members of KS2 as part of our choir for Sing Out at the Dome. This is the first time that Year 2 have attended an event as part of our choir and they loved it! Not only did they show true commitment to rehearsing (coming to rehearsals three times per week), they also represented our school with kindness and respect towards others but with bucket-loads of enthusiasm. We had a fabulous time, despite a late night in sweltering heat, and we are very proud of the Year 2 choir members. You sang your hearts out and were literally "music to our ears"!
Year 3
Noah J - Noah is a very kind and considerate boy. He demonstrates this all of the time in class whether he is working with his friends or with a partner he does not know very well. It is great to have someone who is always kind in class. Thank you !
Isaac - Isaac has demonstrated how kind he is a lot this week. He has looked after his friends, checked in on other children to make sure they are ok and he has helped others in class. Isaac always thinks about other children and his kind and caring nature shines through. Thank you!
Year 4
Kiera: Kiera shows kindness in abundance. She treats others with the respect that they deserve and always speaks politely to both adults and peers. Kiera has come to school with a positive attitude this week and has been determined to succeed. Keep it up.
Mae: Mae shows kindness in everything that she does. She treats others fairly and is always empathetic, listening to how other people feel and responding in a respectful way. She shows patience and kindness to anyone she interacts with. Mae - you are a shining star.
Year 5
"Try to be a rainbow in someone else's cloud." - Maya Angelou
Hermione - Hermione is a valued member of Year 5 who acts with kindness all the time. She is a quiet and thoughtful member of our class. She is invariably kind and caring and sensitive to the feelings of others. She is a good friend to all. Well done Hermione! Keep it up!
"All things are difficult before they are easy." - Thomas Fuller
This week, Jayden has worked hard in every lesson and has shown real determination to improve his learning. He has been approaching his learning with a positive attitude and pushing himself to do his best. Well done Jayden, keep up the hard work!
Year 6
Our focus across school this week has been on one of our important school rules: kindness. Adults have been looking for those children, in particular, who are 'music to the ears' of others, going out of their way to say and do kind things. This week's Stars of the Week in Year 6 have been chosen with this in mind.
Piper - Piper showed such kindness and care when working with our younger children to support them with their artwork this week. Mrs Wood said that she was patient, encouraging and considerate in the way that she worked with her partner, and acted as an excellent role model for others. This was definitely 'music to my ears' Piper and I am very proud of you.
Esme - Esme worked so well with a younger child in Year 3, supporting them to complete their self-portraits this week. Mrs Wood shared that she was calm, kind, patient and respectful at all times and ensured that her partner was well-supported throughout the activity. It is lovely to hear such feedback from other teachers, Esme and I am very proud of you.
Headteacher Award
Each week in our Celebration Assembly, Mrs Powell chooses someone who has really impressed her during the week and presents them with her Headteacher Award trophy.
My Superstar Award this week goes to someone who was nominated after our Sing Out performance on Wednesday night. Lucy R in Year 6 showed unreserved kindness to all those with us at the event. She offered to share what she had with others when they didn’t have a drink; she also looked after those who were younger and needed reassurance too. Well done Lucy, all the staff were super proud of your actions in following one of our important school rules.
Makaton Sign Of The Week
The children are continuing to learn Makaton's 'Sign of the week' each week. Each Monday, the children learn the new sign for that week. We thought it would be useful to share the following week's sign with parents/carers on our Friday blog so you can get involved too if you wish. Please click on the link below to see the sign for the coming week.

Parent Voice Survey
We are delighted to share some exciting news with you.
Following our recent expression of interest, we have been selected as one of only eight schools in Doncaster to take part in the PINS (Partnership for Inclusion of Neurodiversity in Schools) project—a national innovation initiative focused on developing and strengthening inclusive practices in schools.
As part of the project, we will be working closely with many specialist services across Doncaster, including Doncaster Parents Voice (DPV). To help us identify our priorities and make sure we are meeting the needs of all our pupils, we would really appreciate it if you would complete a survey by clicking on the following link or by scanning the QR code below.
https://forms.office.com/e/e6404RRSU3
Your feedback is invaluable and will play a key role in shaping the next steps of our inclusion journey. By sharing your experiences and views, you will help us ensure that our school is a place where every child feels understood, supported, and included.
We are extremely grateful to have been chosen for this opportunity and look forward to seeing the positive impact it will have on our pupils, staff, and wider school community.
Goodbye for now!
Yesterday we said goodbye for now to Mrs Wood, our SENCo, who has gone on maternity leave. We will really miss you Mrs Wood, as you are an extremely important part of our Mayflower family. Enjoy some rest before the little one arrives - we can't wait to meet them. We hope you will join us in sending lots of love and best wishes to Mrs Wood and her family.
Communication from September
We wanted to let parents/carers know that now that School Spider has been up and running for a little while, we will be using this as our main form of communication from September onwards. We will still use ParentPay as a payment system, but all emails and messages will be sent via School Spider.
Our weekly blog will continue and the link to this will still be sent to parents/carers on a Friday, but through School Spider from September rather than ParentPay. The blog plus the yearly calendar of dates/events etc will continue to be updated on our school website.
We hope that this will streamline communication somewhat for parents/carers. If you don't currently use School Spider, please ensure that you familiarise yourself with the app. Teachers are currently sending their weekly update on School Spider, along with any year group specific messages.
Year 6 transition to Secondary Schools
We hope our Year 6 children are looking forward to their transition days at Secondary school, which will be taking place over the next few weeks. Transport to and from Secondary schools should be organised by parents/carers themselves. Some of the schools may have a school bus service; please check with your child's Secondary school as to whether this is something which they offer.
Sports Day
On Wednesday, it was Sports Day for the whole school. The weather was very kind to us and the children had a fantastic time. Team spirit was clearly evident from all year groups and the way that team members looked out for each other and cheered each other on was brilliant. The parents races at the end of the event were competitive to say the least! We always get lots of volunteers for these races and this year didn't disappoint!
Congratulations to the White team, who were victorious again this year.
Thank you to everyone who was able to attend the event - we hope everyone enjoyed themselves. Huge thank you to members of our PTA who were selling refreshments on the day.
Summer Fair
Yesterday was our PTA's Annual Summer Fair. As always, the amount of effort and planning that had gone into the event by our PTA was phenomenal and ensured that the event ran smoothly and was a huge success. There was a variety of different games and stalls for everyone to visit, including the incredibly popular game of throwing soaking wet sponges at the staff! Thank you to those staff members who took part again this year - the children absolutely loved it!
Lots of helpers came along throughout the day to make sure that everything was set up ready for the fair to start. We are extremely grateful for all the hard work and support that the PTA and their helpers put in for each of our events. We have mentioned previously, but it is really really true, that without these events and the support that our school community gives, we would not have the funds to afford to provide the additional experiences and activities for our children. We know we are extremely lucky with the support that our school receives and we never take this for granted.
There were some unclaimed raffle prizes on the day. The PTA are just collating the information and we will share the winning numbers as soon as we receive the details.
Sing Out 2025
On Wednesday evening, our choir took part in Sing Out 2025 at Doncaster Dome. The children had been practising their songs and moves for the event and were extremely excited when they set off. After a rehearsal, the children got ready for their big performance. And what a performance it was! Their enthusiasm and enjoyment shone through and they did themselves, their families and Bawtry Mayflower proud!
We spoke to some of the children about their experience at Sing Out.
Lily - I was excited and nervous at the same time.
Olivia - We made friends with some of the children at the other side of the room by comunicating with our hands. My favourite songs were Sing Out and Cotton Eyed Joe. It was very hot and dark. It felt joyful. Everyone sang their hearts out. Our parents thought it was good and were very proud.
Libby - We had to keep standing up and sitting down. I was really happy to be there - it was fun!
Ottavia - It was a great experience; it was fun and we got to sing with our friends.
Scarlett - We got to do lots of actions and dancing and I loved that.
Annie W - It was an evening to remember.
Oscar S - We all liked it and if we could we would all like to go again.
Maddison - I loved it a lot because the people there were really nice.
Isaac - It was good and everything was my favourite! At the end when we were singing the Final Countdown I loved that!
Colour Run Thursday 17th July 1.15pm
Letters should have come home with the children today for our PTA's Colour Run which will be held on the afternoon of Thursday 17th July. For those not familiar with a colour run, it is a fun event where everyone starts wearing a white t-shirt. They follow the course round and at various points everyone is doused with different coloured powder paints. At the end of the event, everyone will be covered in a rainbow of paint! Last year’s event was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone who took part, so we are hoping that as many families as possible will be able to join us on 17th July.
The deadline for the reply slip and payment to be returned is Friday 4th July. Please ensure that if your child would like to take part, that their reply slip and payment is returned by this deadline, as we cannot accept any late reply slips.
Uniform orders for September
We are now accepting orders for uniform for September. If you would like to order any uniform ready for September, please log on to ParentPay to order your items before Friday 11th July.
The uniform will then be available to collect from the school office on Friday 29th August between 8am and 3pm.
We cannot guarantee that any orders received after Friday 11th July will be available for collection before the children start back in September, so it is really important that you order on time.
If you order any uniform and the item is for your child to have this term rather than for September, please email admin@bawtrymayflower.doncaster.sch.uk to let us know.
