Stars of the week

Each week in our Friday Celebration Assembly, we celebrate our stars of the week. Each class teacher chooses 2 children from their class each week who have really impressed them. Please see below for who has been chosen this week, together with the reason for them being chosen.

Nursery & Reception

Stars of the week this week go to:

Evie in Reception for being a super kind and helpful friend. She is always very caring and considerate to those around her and likes to know that her friends are ok.

Hugo in Nursery for being very kind and helpful to his friends. If he sees somebody struggling he will do his best to try and help them.

Year 1

Stars of the Week in Year 1 this week are:

Thomas S – for making a conscious effort in being kind and helpful. Thomas has been helping his friends out during our nativity rehearsals and being a fantastic role model to Reception children, by helping those younger children follow school rules at playtimes. Well Done, Thomas keep up the good work!

Reuben – Well done Reuben, it has been great to see how kind and caring you have been not only to your friends but to your teachers too. You are always polite and try your best in your learning. Reuben helps his friends get their coats for playtimes and will help find resources for his group, which is great to see.

Year 2

My Stars of the week are:

Libby and Phoebe for being kind and thoughtful to everyone in the class. They are great friends to have, always including people in their games and checking that people are ok. They help others when they can and help to keep the classroom tidy. They always have a positive attitude which rubs off on others.

Year 3

Maddison M - For being exceptionally kind to her peers and staff. Maddison made a thank you card for us this week to thank us for helping her overcome her fears on the school trip. Maddison always volunteers to help her peers when they need it.

Lilly-Rose - Lilly has been an excellent role model this week and has gone above and beyond to show her class mates kindness, she has helped them with work, she helps around the class with various jobs and has been a pleasure to have in class.

Year 4

Charlotte - Charlotte is a kind and helpful member of our class. She is always willing to help other people to tidy up or with their learning. She worked hard to learn her parts for the Year 4 Kindness Assembly and spoke confidently and clearly every time. Charlotte is an excellent role model in class as she is always respectful and kind.

Hermione - Hermione is a kind member of our class. She holds the door open for other people and is always happy to carry out a task for adults. She quietly gets on with her work but helps others at the same time. Hermione is an excellent role model in class as she is always respectful and kind.

Year 5

This week has been anti-bullying week. With this in mind, I have chosen two children who always look out for other people and who often put others before themselves. They are a friend to all; demonstrating kindness all the time through the things they do and say. They always treat others the way they would like to be treated and show tolerance to other people. This week's stars of the week in Year 5 are Vinnie A and Wynter.

Year 6

This week in school, we have been focusing on one of our school rules in particular: Be Kind. This rule is so important and we are fortunate to have lots of kind children at Bawtry Mayflower. This week's Stars of the Week in Year 6 have been chosen with this in mind.

Annabelle - Annabelle is such a kind, supportive partner to other children in the class. She works well with others, sharing her thoughts and ideas whilst also valuing the opinions of others. Annabelle treats all adults and other children with kindness and speaks to them the way that she would like to be spoken to - with respect and compassion. Annabelle, you make our classroom a nicer place to be.

Noah - Noah is a kind, considerate member of the class who treats others the way that he would like to be treated. He is a positive role model for kindness and speaks out when he knows that the treatment of others is wrong, ensuring that all others are treated with the kindness that they should be shown. I appreciate the kindness that you show to children in our class and also to me, Noah - thank you.

Headteacher Award

Each week in our Celebration Assembly, Mrs Powell chooses someone who has really impressed her during the week and presents them with her Headteacher Award trophy. This week, Henry in Year 1 was awarded with the trophy for his fantastic extended writing piece following his visit to Doncaster Museum (see below); but also his unlimited offers of kindness and his awareness of empathy towards others.

Henry, you are one of the shining stars in our school and we are thankful every day that you are part of our Mayflower family.

Flu Vaccinations

The children who had their flu vaccinations this week are all now Super Flu Fighters! The nurses commented continuously throughout the morning how fabulous our children were - extremely respectful, very patient waiting for their turn and super chatty when they were with the nurses!

Year 6 Maths Challenge

Maths1.jpg

At the beginning of this week, four of our Year 6 pupils attended a Maths Challenge at Hill House School. There were ten schools taking part and as well as the Maths Challenge, the children all took part in orienteering whilst the challenge papers were being marked.

Annabelle, Carson, Leo and Ella have shared with us their experience of this event.

Annabelle - I enjoyed it. It was very challenging and enjoyable for people who like Maths.

Carson - It was a great experience. Other children would enjoy it.

Leo - It was great fun. It gave us an opportunity to go out of school and compete against others.

Ella - I didn't know what to expect but when I got there the teachers from Hill House made us feel very welcome and not nervous. It was challenging but the teachers made it really enjoyable.

Well done you four! You did amazingly well and we're really glad you enjoyed this experience and would recommend it to others.

We are looking forward to taking part in some more events at Hill House throughout this school year.

Year 1/2 visit to Doncaster Museum

Last week, our Year 1 and Year 2 children visited Doncaster Museum. They were amazed by how many different objects, old and new, they saw at the museum. They had a brilliant time and the staff and helpers who went with them were super impressed by how well behaved and polite they were. Well done!

When the children came back from the museum, they did some writing about what they had seen and enjoyed. Henry from Year 1 has shared his thoughts below with us.

First we did activities at the museum. Then we went on a hunt for lots of stuff. Then we looked at different objects.

My favourite object is the hair curler. Then we went to the trains. The train was big and green and it was a steam train.

I had an amazing time.
