Stars of the week
Each week in our Friday Celebration Assembly, we celebrate our stars of the week. Each class teacher chooses 2 children from their class each week who have really impressed them. Here are the children who have been chosen this week.
Nursery & Reception
This week our star of the week in Nursery for teamwork goes to Jenson. Jenson is trying to work really hard to be a good friend and work together in a team. He has a regular group of friends that he works with, he has become much better at sharing resources and ideas and working collaboratively with others.
Our first star of the week for Reception this week has been a super team player in Reception this week. We've seen him working so well with his friends during provision time helping them to create some fantastic knight armour. He has shown some brilliant teamwork outside creating fire engines, planes and cars, whilst including his friends' ideas. Well done Oliver 🙂
Our second star of the week for Reception is always ready to share ideas and listen to what others have to say. She always models fantastic teamwork within the classroom helping her friends in the creative area and whilst at drawing club. She always helps other children when they find things difficult and makes sure that they have a friend to complete their tasks with. Well done Yasmin 🙂
Year 1
Darcy - Darcy has had a super week in school. She has tried her best every day, even though our routine has changed this week. She has worked incredibly hard and welcomed our Year 5 helpers in warmly. Darcy has been sharing nicely and I loved hearing her compliment another child's model during choosing time. Small acts of kindness are what builds a loving community! Well done, Darcy.
Evie - This week we have been thinking about mental health and about how to create a community. Evie has had some brilliant ideas when we have discussed this and she sets a great example every day about how we can all work together with kindness, patience and understanding to build a strong community. Mostly though... we just adore Evie's cheeky smile and her hilarious jokes! We all feel happier when Evie is around!
Year 2
This week we have been thinking about the benefits of working as a team and what true team work looks like. I have chosen two children who are quiet and considerate members of the class but also do so much for others.
Thomas M and Mia are fantastic role models, showing all the other children how to always do things the Mayflower Way! They help others when help is needed by spending time to explain how to do things, rather than just telling someone the answer, so that they are helping others learn. They look out for others at play too and always try to include everyone who wants to play in their games. They are both real community champions!
Year 3
Jagoda - Jagoda is an excellent team player! She always asks how other people are feeling and takes care of all of us in Year 3! Jagoda is always happy and knows that asking for help from our team will stop us having to struggle. Thank you Jagoda!
Tillie - Tillie's opinion about teamwork is that you never leave anyone out if you are working as a team. She demonstrates this in class where she is supportive and helpful to all of her classmates. Tillie is an excellent team player! Thank you, Tillie.
Year 4
Mae - Mae is a wonderful member of our class and school community. She has shown that she can collaborate effectively with a partner but also works well in group scenarios. She can accept support from others and also is able to offer guidance to peers. I have been very impressed with Mae's positive attitude and her determination to succeed.
Kiera - Kiera is a quiet member of our school community but always leads by example. She listens carefully to all instructions and can use a range of resources to support her learning. Kiera is able to work well in groups and enjoys collaborating with others. She is a great example of doing it the Mayflower way.
Year 5
Oliver B, Ariana, Katie, Darcy, Noah and Elizabeth - these children have really stood out this week; they have all been fantastic role models, showing the younger children how to do things the Mayflower Way! They have been very helpful, and they were always kind and patient.
Well done to you all!!!
Year 6
It was impossible to choose just two Stars of the Week from Year 6 this week as each and every one of them have made all staff in school immeasurably proud. Their resilience, determination and the attitude that they have shown towards SATs this week has been commendable and this is what will ensure that they will be successful life-long learners moving forwards. Year 6, you are all superstars and we hope you have a lovely, relaxing weekend as a reward for all of your hard work. We could not be any prouder of you.
Headteacher Award
Each week in our Celebration Assembly, Mrs Powell chooses someone who has really impressed her during the week and presents them with her Headteacher Award trophy.
My superstar award this week goes to Ella (yr3). A true superstar when it comes to school community. She understands the importance of togetherness for our well-being. She tries to build a happier and kinder world, by taking the time to connect, listen and show friendship to those around her. Well done Ella – you really deserve this award as the kindness and consideration you showed in Austerfield was simply astounding.
Makaton Sign Of The Week
The children are continuing to learn Makaton's 'Sign of the week' each week. Each Monday, the children learn the new sign for that week. We thought it would be useful to share the following week's sign with parents/carers on our Friday blog so you can get involved too if you wish. Please click on the link below to see the sign for the coming week.

Upcoming training days
As advised in our diary dates and on the school website calendar, following the May half term holiday school will remain closed on Monday 2nd June and Tuesday 3rd June as these are our final two training days for the current school year.
Training Days for 2025-2026
Three of the training days for the 2025-2026 school year have now been agreed. They are as follows:
1st September 2025
5th January 2026

There are still two further training days to be set. As soon as the dates for these have been agreed, we will add them to our blog and our school website.
Reminder about parking
Please remember that there should be no parking in the school car parks at any time. This is to ensure the safety of the children at all times.
Lost property
We have a huge amount of uniform etc that does not have children's names in. Please remember to label your child's uniform to ensure that if they lose an item, it can be easily returned to them.
We will be putting out all the lost property on the lower playground at the end of the school day next Tuesday 20th May and next Wednesday 21st May. Please come and have a look if any of the items belong to your child. Any items left at the end of next Wednesday will be bagged up ready for the next Bag2School clothing collection or taken to a local clothing bin.
Bag2School clothing collection
Our PTA's next Bag2School clothing collection will be on Friday 6th June. The bags for this will be coming home with the children next week.
Please click on the link below to check what Bag2School accept in their clothing collections.
https://bag2school.com/what-we-collect
Please bring your filled bags to school on Friday 6th June and leave them in front of the building outside our Foundation classroom, on the patch of grass opposite the shed. There will already be some bags in that area by the time parents/carers start arriving, so it will be obvious where they need to be left.
Bag2School usually arrive at the start of the school day so please place your filled bags in the collection area before school starts.
Bag2School will weigh the bags and our PTA will receive payment dependent on the total weight of all the bags. We will share how much was raised on an upcoming blog.
