Stars of the week

Each week in our Friday Celebration Assembly, we celebrate our stars of the week. Each class teacher chooses 2 children from their class each week who have really impressed them. Here are the children who have been chosen this week.

Nursery

Roman has been chosen as star of the week because he is really showing a lot of enthusiasm at the moment for books, reading and sharing stories. He is showing his interest in reading particular books by bringing his chosen story to an adult. He is becoming a great deal more understanding of routines and joining in with class sessions and carpet times.

Isabelle has been chosen as star of the week because she is demonstrating strengthening relationships with her peers. She is collaborating, negotiating and helping out her friends and they are doing the same for her. It is lovely to see how Isabelle is cooperating and building strong friendships built on mutual respect and understanding

Reception

This week’s first star of the week is someone who brings warmth and happiness into our classroom every single day. He makes everyone feel welcome with big smiles and kind words. Since starting Reception he has included others in his play, listens to his friends and helps to make sure everyone feels like they belong. He offers hugs and checks in with his friends if they are feeling sad or if they have fallen over.  Well done Hugo 🙂

Our second star of the week gives the best hugs and always brightens our day with her sunny smile. She has a cheerful, caring nature and is always so polite! She often asks others how they are and shows genuine interest in their day. She accepts her friends just as they are and loves to celebrate their achievements.  Well done Winnie 🙂

Year 1

Our stars of the week this week are children who bring acceptance and warmth to our school.

Milo and Sinead show everyone empathy and respect. Every morning, they greet the adults with beaming smiles. In the classroom and on the playgound, they treat all children the same - with care and consideration. If anyone needs a friend or a kind word, they are there. In short, they light up the room just by being in it.

Thank you for making our school a better place, Milo and Sinead.

Year 2

Jasper always comes into school with a huge smile and a positive attitude that truly lights up the room. He brings the energy and brightness into our class and is always making others laugh. He tries very hard to be thoughtful and kind to others, which is lovely to see. His energetic and cheerful nature helps make our classroom such a joyful place to be. Well done Jasper, you really are a star!

Nova is always so considerate of others and shows thoughtfulness in everything she does. She consistently sets a great example to her peers through her kind actions and positivity. Nova is someone others can go to for help, as she loves supporting and encouraging them to do their best. Her warmth, kindness and care make our classroom such a wonderful place to be. Well done Nova, you truly are a star.

Year 3

Isla - Isla has been a fabulous friend to children in class this week. She has been reassuring to others, incredibly calming when someone needed her and she has offered kindness, friendship and warmth to many children. This comes naturally to Isla and we all appreciate her kindness and warmth to the other children and adults in class. Thank you, Isla!

Patrick - Patrick is one of our 'always' children. He is always kind, always supportive of other children, he always works hard in class and he always does this in a positive, kind and calm way. Patrick offers kindness and friendship wherever he goes! Thank you, Patrick!

Year 4

Annie W - Annie has a quiet presence in the classroom but always shows acceptance and warmth to her peers. She has had a positive start back to school this year and this has been evident in her work ethic and determination. Annie has worked hard to make sure all her peers feel included and valued this week and I am really impressed with the level of maturity that she has shown.

Oscar M - Oscar brings warmth and acceptance to the classroom at all times. When choosing partners to work with, he always ensures that he works with someone that he can support and waits to ensure that everyone has someone to work with. Oscar is always kind and respectful and this is noticed by all adults. He often organises the classroom and I am lucky to have him in my class!

Year 5

"You can always give something, even if it is only kindness!" - Anne Frank

Maddie S - Maddie shows warmth and acceptance towards everyone around her. She takes the time to listen to others and always makes her friends feel valued and included. Her kind words and gentle actions create a positive environment in the classroom. We are very proud of the way Maddie treats others with respect and compassion—well done on being such a shining example to all!

Belle - Belle shows warmth and acceptance to everyone around her. She is always kind and respectful, making sure that others feel included and valued. Her caring attitude and friendly nature help create a happy and supportive classroom environment. We are very proud of the way Belle treats others with such kindness and respect—well done!

Year 6

This week across school, we have been learning about celebrations and festivals from different faiths, with the children learning about Lohri, which was celebrated on Tuesday 13th January, during their Monday's assembly and thinking about why it is important for us to learn about different festivals, celebrations and faiths during their pupil voice session.  The focus for our Stars of the Week this week has been centred around this, with adults looking for those children, in particular, who bring acceptance and warmth into our school. Year 6 stars have been chosen with this in mind.

Jayden - Jayden always shows respect, tolerance and acceptance towards others; he values the thoughts and opinions of others and accepts everybody just the way they are. He is proud of who he is and is always unapologetically himself, which is something that is admired by his peers. Jayden brings sunshine to our class on a daily basis and makes Year 6 a warmer, more pleasant place to be just by being himself.

Oliwia - Oliwia is a kind, compassionate and understanding member of Year 6 who respects everyone and expects the same respect in return. She recognises that we are all different and appreciates these differences, actively seeking to find out more about people and their view, beliefs and opinions. Oliwia accepts people just the way they are and always demonstrates tolerance and respect, making our class a warmer, nicer place to be.

Headteacher Award & Shout Outs

Each week in our Celebration Assembly, Mrs Powell chooses someone who has really impressed her during the week and presents them with her Headteacher Award. This week’s Superstar Award goes to a pupil who is always striving for the Mayflower way, thinks about how people feel, and brings warmth and consideration to others in our school. Where possible, she also tries to help others see the importance of looking after others too. Well done Erin-Mae! You are a Superstar!

My ‘shout-outs’ for giving 100% to the MAYFLOWER WAY this week go to Uzayr (Rec), Alfie (Rec), Archie (Y1), Elijah (Y2) and Isaac (Y4). Well done!

Makaton Sign Of The Week

The children are continuing to learn Makaton's 'Sign of the week' each week. Each Monday, the children learn the new sign for that week. We thought it would be useful to share the following week's sign with parents/carers on our Friday blog so you can get involved too if you wish.

Plastic Tub Collection

As advised before Christmas, we are working with our local churches on the appeal below. If you have any plastic tubs listed below, please bring them to the school office between now and the end of January. This is a really worthwhile cause and we would like to collect as many tubs as possible to help MacMillan Cancer Care with their vital work.

Congratulations!

It was only last week that we shared that Rex in Reception had been awarded his Stage 1 and Stage 2 swimming certificates. It turns out that Rex is a natural swimmer, as he was presented with his Stage 3 certificate at the beginning of this week! Rex now moves up to the next group, which is an amazing achievement for someone so young who has only just recently started swimming lessons. Well done Rex - please keep sharing your achievements with us. We love letting everyone know what a superstar you are!
