Stars of the week
Each week in our Friday Celebration Assembly, we celebrate our stars of the week. Each class teacher chooses 2 children from their class each week who have really impressed them. Here are the children who have been chosen this week.
Nursery
Alfie has shown himself to be a really kind friend this week and has been chosen as a star of the week. Alfie told his friend that the piece of art work he had finished was ‘beautiful’. The adults were really proud of Alfie for being so kind and considerate towards his peers.
Lacey has been spotted this week being a really good friend to her peers and has been chosen as star of the week. When Lacey spotted one of her friends was struggling and asked Lacey for help, she didn’t hesitate and went straight to help her.
Reception
This week we have been thinking about kindness. This child has shown true kindness in all of his actions towards his friends this week. In particular when he has seen someone that felt sad, he has given them a hug and tried to make them laugh to cheer them up. He has made sure that another friend has had someone to work and play with, noticing when they didn't have a partner to complete an activity. Well done for showing empathy and kindness this week Oliver 🙂
This week’s star has shown that kindness really does make the world a brighter place! They have been such a thoughtful and caring friend, always ready to help others, share, and use kind words. During Anti-Bullying Week, they reminded us all how important it is to treat everyone with respect and to always choose kindness. We are so proud of the gentle and caring way they make everyone feel included, well done Scout 🙂
Year 1
The theme for Antibullying Week 2025 is "The Power of Good". We have been thinking about those who go out of their way not just to be nice, but those who are generous with their time and show genuine empathy towards everyone.
Erin and Bethany use their powers to show kindness and speak up when they see unkind behaviour. They help anyone in need, share their time and games, and always think about the feelings of others. By showing kindness, they have made a big difference to so many others. Well done both of you. We are lucky to have you in our class.
Year 2
Georgia and Lucy are shining examples of what it means to use their 'Power for Good'. They always offer to help their peers, include others when they are alone, and use their words with kindness and care. Whether it's noticing when someone is left out and inviting them to play or offering a quiet word of encouragement, they consistently look out for those around them and use their voice to stand up, protect and support them. This week and every week they show just how powerful our goodness can be.
Year 3
Evie works hard all of the time but also finds time to be an amazing help in Year 3. She is always generous with her time and helps the adults in class with absolutely anything she can! Evie is kind, she puts others first and is always thinking about how other people feel, checking in on them and seeing how she can help. This makes her an incredible 'Power for Good' in our classroom. Thank you, Evie!
Blu-Belle has shone brightly in class this week! She has been so keen to share her ideas, her skills and her kindness across Year 3. Blu-Belle is patient, helpful and kind with the people she works with and she can always be relied upon to carry out any jobs for adults in class. This makes her an amazing 'Power for Good' in our classroom. Thank you, Blu-Belle!
Year 4
Tommy - Tommy is a fantastic example of using powers for good in school. He advocates for people, often communicating to adults how others are feeling to ensure that they get the support that they need. Tommy leads by example and isn't afraid to stand up for what he believes to be right. Tommy is a hard working and driven member of the class. I appreciate you Tommy!
Noah J - Noah always uses his powers for good. His drive for learning is amazing to see and is enabling him to flourish and make amazing progress. Noah leads by example and consistently shows high levels of respect to both adults and peers in school. He is a star and I love having him in my class.
Year 5
"With great power comes great responsibility."
This week in school, the focus has been on using our 'Powers for Good'.
Yesterday, Year 5 showed how they can use their 'powers for good' when representing our school. They consistently showed high levels of respect to members of the public and the adults at Lincoln Castle. They modelled our school rules at all times and showed how they can do things the 'Mayflower Way' even when not at school! I'm so proud of all of you. Keep it up!
Year 6
This week in school, the focus has been on using our 'Powers for Good'. The adults across school have been paying particular attention to those children who do just that and put their powers to good use. This week's Stars of the Week in Year 6 have been chosen with this in mind:
Sophia B - Sophia always uses her powers for good. She uses her voice to stand up for what she believes in and to communicate effectively with others when they might not understand her opinions or point of view. She uses her creativity skills to make others smile - often making them small crafts or drawings to brighten their day and to make them feel appreciated. You always use your powers to do good and to make people feel good, Sophia and we appreciate you.
Mason - Mason uses his powers for good in school. As a well-liked and respected member of Year 6, he uses his power of influence to encourage others to make the right choices, often leading by example. He models our school rules at all times and sets a good example for others to follow, working hard in every lesson in all subjects across the curriculum and giving everything 100%. You are a positive role model in Year 6, Mason and we appreciate all you do.
Headteacher Award & Shout Outs
Each week in our Celebration Assembly, Mrs Powell chooses someone who has really impressed her during the week and presents them with her Headteacher Award trophy.
Imagine a world where respect and kindness thrives - it's not just a dream, it's in the choices we make. Our theme this week was using our ‘Power for Good’. At home, at school and even online. So my superstar award this week goes to Aaron in Year 2 who constantly strives for this in school every day. He voices passion around how others should be treated and leads by example. Well done on this achievement!
My ‘shout-outs’ for giving 100% to the MAYFLOWER WAY this week go to Ariana, Darcy, Oliver B and Noah all from Year 6, who took part in the Hill House Maths Challenge this morning. They were all amazing and represented Mayflower wonderfully in the challenge.
Makaton Sign Of The Week
The children are continuing to learn Makaton's 'Sign of the week' each week. Each Monday, the children learn the new sign for that week. We thought it would be useful to share the following week's sign with parents/carers on our Friday blog so you can get involved too if you wish. Please click on the link below to see the sign for the coming week.

Non-uniform day donations
Thank you to everyone who sent in donations for our non-uniform day today. We have raised £141.65 so far with some more donations still to come from one of the classes. As advised on last week's blog, the money raised will be used to help our own children in need within our school community.
Winter Warmer Project
To ensure children don’t go cold this winter, school will be organising a winter warmer project which will take place wk commencing 24th-28th November. We are looking for donations of out-grown coats, hats, gloves, scarves and Christmas jumpers/tshirts that families will be able to come in and choose the next sizes needed for their child/ren.
We have started to take donations of clean items which are in very good / excellent condition and will continue to accept these until next Thursday, 20th November. These will then be sorted and checked and you will receive an update next Friday listing the ages we have to offer. These will be available to collect before school each morning and after school each evening during the week commencing 24th November. You can offer a donation for the item on collection if you wish. Anything left after this time will be donated to the ‘Action For the Homeless and Needy in Doncaster’ group.
During the winter months, classes are planning on using our new outdoor classroom for learning opportunities such as orienteering and watching seasonal changes so this is an ideal opportunity to get something in preparation. Also, school will be having a Christmas jumper day on Christmas dinner day (16th December) and Party clothes day on the last day of term (18th December) which means you may already have had a chance to sort something new to wear.
Is your child a HERO?
During week commencing 24th November, we will be having a real push on encouraging all children to be Here, Every day, Ready and On time. Every child who arrives on time for school every day during that week will be entered into a prize draw, with a chance to win a movie night hamper for the whole family to enjoy.
We hope everyone is up for this challenge and will remind everyone again on next Friday's blog.
Christmas Artwork Orders
The items that have been ordered from Xmas4Schools have now arrived in school. These will be taken to classes at the beginning of next week for the children to bring home.
The team at Xmas4Schools has asked us to share the following information with our families.
Occasionally, when dealing with thousands of handwritten children’s names, a spelling mistake can occur. Our data is always double checked by a human and our error rate last year was 0.064%! If,however, you do receive an order with an incorrect spelling, please call us immediately and we will reprocess it for you.

We are really looking forward to our first Rocksteady concert of this school year, which takes place on Wednesday 26th November starting at 2pm. Jake, our band leader, has let us know that all the children have been working incredibly hard and parents/carers who are able to join us are in for a real treat!
If your child currently takes part in the Rocksteady sessions that are held in school and you will be attending the concert, please ensure you arrive at the school office in plenty of time to sign in so that the concert can start as close to 2pm as possible.

Congratulations!
Libby in Year 4 recently competed at the East Midlands Gymnastic Association Regional Floor and Vault Competition. She won the Silver Medal overall in her age range. Libby has such dedication to her sport and is so supportive to her fellow squad members and always celebrates their successes too. She loves gymnastics and works so hard with her coach at training. Her family said it is lovely to see Libby sparkle in an activity she enjoys so much.
Well done Libby! We know how much you love your gymnastics and all your hard work has certainly paid off.

Christmas photo drop-in sessions this weekend
We have been asked to share the following flyer regarding a Christmas photo drop-in session which is taking place this weekend in Bawtry. The photographer has very kindly offered to donate £1 from each bauble sold to our PTA, which is greatly appreciated. Parents just need to quote 'Mayflower' when they order.
