Stars of the week

Each week in our Friday Celebration Assembly, we celebrate our stars of the week. Each class teacher chooses 2 children from their class each week who have really impressed them.

Foundation

We would like all of Nursery and Reception to be our stars this week for all being superstars on the trip!

1/2A Mrs Davies, 1/2B Miss Cruickshanks & 1/2C Mrs Birkinshaw

Our stars of the week are:

Jenson - for having a fabulous transition into Year 3. His ideas for a creature based on the Barnabas Project were amazingly creative.

Layla - for having a fantastic transition into Year 3. Her writing was so effective that Mrs Wood thinks she could move straight to Year 4!

Fletcher - for having a fantastic transition into Year 3. He really impressed Mrs Miller with his fantastic team work.

Leo C - for having a fabulous transition into Year 2. He tried really hard in all activities and produced a beautiful piece of art based on his favourite book.

James H - for a fabulous transition into Year 2. He was actively engaged in all the activities and gave some brilliant suggestions throughout the day.

Libby - for a fantastic transition into Year 2. She was a great role model for the rest of the class and tried really hard with all activities.

3/4A Mrs Wood

Hermione for working hard during the transition days. She used her artistic and writing skills to produce an excellent piece of work which demonstrated all of the learning from Year 3 and proved that she is ready to move on to Year 4. Her behaviour and attitude to her work were both outstanding!

Jayden for showing real imagination and determination during the transition days. Jayden's imagination and creativity were super when creating his 'failed project' creature and his determination to present his work to the highest standard was great to see. Excellent!

3/4B Mrs Parkes/Mrs Ronan

Brandon and Amelie - both children worked collaboratively to complete a project about the Ancient Egyptians. They worked hard and were determined to complete their research to the best of their abilities.

Their new teachers were very impressed with their positive attitudes during transition. Keep it up!

5/6A Miss Dunn & 5/6B Mrs Pickersgill/Mrs Walker

This week, we have been focusing on transition and our Year 5 children, as our new Year 6 cohort from September, have been deciding what they would like the adults and other children in school to say about them. They decided that they would like to be seen as hardworking, well-mannered, responsible and polite - among many other attributes - and this week's Stars of the Week have been chosen with this in mind.

Annabelle - through transition this week, Annabelle has shown that she is ready to step up to being in Year 6 in September. She has worked hard in all lessons and has shown that she is kind, polite and respectful at all times.

Ella - Ella has shown that she is ready for Year 6 in September; this week she has made an extra effort to be kind and be respectful and she has helped to guide the younger children in KS2 when they were unsure about the rules at lunchtime.

Joey - Joey has shown that he will be a responsible, respectful member of Year 6 who can always follow the rules - even when no-one is watching. He has made the right choices this week and has not allowed himself to be influenced by others.

Carson - during transition this week, Carson has proven that he is ready for Year 6 in September. He has strived to be all of the things that, as a class, we decided Year 6 should be and I look forward to seeing more of this next academic year.

Uniform orders for September & change of supplier

As advised earlier this week, our current uniform supplier has been in touch to advise that their prices have gone up significantly. We don’t feel that we can justify passing this cost on to parents/carers so have taken the decision to source a different uniform provider.

The provider we have chosen still uses the same manufacturer as our current uniform; however, to keep prices down we have made the decision to move to sweatshirts and new-style cardigans rather than the knitted style that we sell currently.

The price of each item will now be as follows:
Sweatshirts up to age 13-14 (size 34”) £11
Sweatshirts age 15-16 and above (size 36” and above) £16
Cardigans up to age 13-14 (size 34”) £12
Cardigans age 15-16 and above (size 36” and above) £16
Coats up to age 13-14 (size 34”) £18
Book bag £6.50
PE bag £5.50

Ties will remain the same price which is £4.50 and both elastic and non-elastic are available (please ensure you order the correct one on ParentPay).

If you would like to view the new style sweatshirts/cardigans, please come to the school office.

Unfortunately, we do not have enough stock to fulfil all the orders that have been placed so far for September. It may therefore be necessary to look at orders by the date they were received and you may therefore receive a sweatshirt/new style cardigan rather than the one purchased. However, if this becomes the case, we will of course provide a refund of the difference for you.

In view of this change, we have extended the uniform order deadline to next Wednesday, 19th July. As advised previously, we cannot guarantee that any orders received after this date will be ready to collect before the children return to school in September. As a reminder, all the uniform orders can be collected from the school office on Monday 4th September, as this is a training day and school is closed to pupils on that day.

Move Up Day

All the children had a fantastic day yesterday on their transition day with their new teachers. They completed an art activity, as well as some other group activities. All the teachers were so impressed with how the children responded to moving up to the next year group and can't wait for the children to be with them all the time in September.

We were also so impressed with our new Nursery and Reception children, who said goodbye to their parents/carers and went straight into class. The children who will be in Reception in September also stayed for dinner yesterday and got a taste of the delicious meals that our catering team produce for us every day. They all coped so well with their new surroundings and we can't wait to get to know them and their families over the coming months.

Entering/leaving school safely

Could we please remind parents/carers that they should use the paths rather than the driveways when entering and leaving school. There have been some instances of families walking up the Station Road driveway recently who have become frustrated with visitors who are driving in to park their cars, so we would appreciate it for everyone's safety if the paths could be used from now on please.

Year 6 travel pass

If your child is in Year 6, they should have brought home a Zoom Under 16 travel pass leaflet today. The travel pass helps young people under 16 to travel around South Yorkshire for less and applications are now open.

Pupils who live in South Yorkshire can apply for a pass to prove to bus drivers, tram conductors and ticket sellers that they are entitled to a concessionary fare on public transport. With a Zoom Under 16 Travel Pass they can travel anytime, anywhere in South Yorkshire for a single fare of 80p per journey on bus or tram. They can also buy cheaper 1, 7 and 28 day tickets and travel half price on local trains.

Instructions on how to apply are available at www.travelsouthyorkshire.com/ZoomU16

Dance performances

We hope the children who attend our dance clubs have really enjoyed their sessions this term. As advised in our recent email, to round off the sessions, we would like to invite parents/carers of these children to a dance performance on the following dates:

Key Stage 1 (Years 1&2) - Monday 17th July 3.40pm

Key Stage 2 (Years 3 to 6) - Wednesday 19th July 3.40pm

At these performances the children will perform the dance routine they have been learning.

We really hope as many of their parents/carers as possible can make it. Please come to the school office to sign in and we will direct you to the lower hall where the performances will take place.

Rocksteady concert Tuesday 18th July

Following on from our previous emails and also correspondence you should have received from Rocksteady themselves, we wanted to remind you about the invitation to the Rocksteady concert at the end of this term.

The concert for the Summer term will be on Tuesday 18th July at 2pm.

The children will be showcasing their learning and amazing talents - they have all done tremendously well in their Rocksteady lessons, so you are in for a real treat!

Please come to the school office on Tuesday 18th July from 1.45pm onwards. We are aiming for the concert to start promptly at 2pm, so please ensure you arrive well in advance of the start of the concert.

We look forward to you joining us.

Colour Run Thursday 20th July

We are really looking forward to our PTA Colour Run next Thursday, 20th July. Tickets and a map of the event will be available from the school office from Monday, priced at £5 per family or £3 per individual child (if taking part individually rather than with their family). Ticket sales will be cash only please.

No tickets will be available on the day of the event, so please ensure tickets are purchased by the end of next Wednesday at the latest.

On the day of the event, children MUST be wearing old clothes and shoes/trainers, as they will get wet and covered in paint during the event. A white t-shirt is the most effective to wear as it will show the paint the best. Protective eyewear (glasses/goggles) MUST be worn throughout the event - if those wanting to take part don't have eyewear, they won't be able to join in.

If you are participating as a family, please arrive at the office via the Station Road gate by 1pm to collect your child/children. Please ensure you arrive on time. The event will start at 1.15pm for those taking part as a family. For the children taking part without their family members, the timings are as follows:

Key Stage 2 will join in at 1.30pm and the Foundation/Key Stage 1 children will watch from their designated zone.

Reception and Key Stage 1 will join in at 1.45pm.

Our nursery families are welcome to come and join in too.

At 2.30pm, there will be a group photo to end the event. After this, those family members who are in school are welcome to take their child/children home. All other children will return to their class at 2.45pm ready for home time.

There will be a tuck shop at the event, with all items priced at £1. There will also be a glitter make-up stall priced at £1.

Please note, the gates will ONLY re-open at the end of the event, not during the event, so please only buy a family ticket if you are able to stay for the whole event.

Year 6 picnic and Year 5/6 performance Friday 21st July

We are looking forward to welcoming our Year 6 families into school next Friday, 21st July for our Year 6 picnic and performance. The picnic will start at 12pm, so please arrive at 11.45am. Please bring your own picnic lunch and something for your family to sit on.

The end of year performance featuring our Year 5 and Year 6 children will start at 1pm. Could Year 5 families please arrive from 12.45pm to ensure the performance can start as promptly as possible at 1pm.

When the children have finished the performance, they can leave with their families and younger siblings.

Leavers Assembly Tuesday 25th July - change of time

On Tuesday 25th July, we will hold our annual Leavers Assembly for our Year 6 families. This will start at 1pm promptly (please note the change of time for this). Please come to the school office to sign in and the office staff will then direct you through to where the assembly is being held.

Please ensure you arrive on time, as all the staff want to say goodbye to the Year 6 children and will therefore be in the assembly from 1pm onwards.

Once the leavers assembly has finished, the children can leave with their families and younger siblings.

Last day of school Tuesday 25th July

On the last day of term, all children can be collected from 1.45pm onwards. Please come to the school office and a member of staff will bring your child/children to you as soon as they can.

Please return any school books

As we move ever closer towards the end of the school year, could we please ask that parents/carers have a good look at home and return any school reading books please (including Read Write Inc books). If you do find any, please return them to your child's class teacher before the end of term.

Mrs Powell's Superstar Trophy

Was your child awarded with Mrs Powell's Superstar trophy recently? Do they still have it at home, as Mrs Powell has two trophies and there is currently only one in school? If your child still has it at home, could they please return it next week.

Reception visit to Austerfield

Last week, our Nursery and Reception children went to Austerfield Study Centre. They took part in a wide variety of activities and had the most fantastic time. Some of the children wanted to share with us their experience at Austerfield.

Thomas - we went fishing and pond dipping. We used a net and caught some fish. The pond dipping was my favourite bit.

Seren - we found some creatures. We were in groups looking for the creatures. We used some tools - paintbrushes, pots, a spoon, a tub and a net. I found 2 woodlice and a big beetle.

Henry - we went in the mini-beast garden looking for creatures. Some rocks had been hidden in that garden. There were 8 painted rocks; we needed to find them and cross them off our sheet.

Emilia - I saw a grasshopper and we put it in a pot to see it bigger. The pot had a magnifying glass on top of it.

Could you help at Bawtry Cubs?

We have been asked by Bawtry Scouts Group to ask our parents/carers if anyone locally is free to help at their Cubs group. They are currently seeking Cub leaders and helpers to prevent the group from folding. This is a great opportunity to get involved in a fantastic voluntary organisation which is good fun. Cubs currently run on Wednesday evenings from 6.30pm to 8pm.

Please contact Kelly on 07948 974436 if you are interested.
