Stars of the week

Each week in our Friday Celebration Assembly, we celebrate our stars of the week. Each class teacher chooses 2 children from their class each week who have really impressed them. Here are the children who have been chosen this week.

Nursery & Reception

Oliver is Nursery's Star of the Week this week. The adults have chosen him to be the star this week as he has become a lot more involved in his learning at school. He offers good answers and suggestions when he is asked a question, showing a range of knowledge across subjects. He has shown good number skills in our maths sessions and has been really good at clapping out the syllables in words. Well done Oliver!

Erin-Mae in Reception - This week Erin-Mae has shown her fantastic imagination within our small world area. She has created an amazing scene from Alice in Wonderland and retold parts of the story using her scene to help. Erin-Mae has been a kind and caring friend taking care of other children when they have felt unwell and making sure they have still been included in her activities. Well Done Erin-Mae 🙂

Yasmin in Reception - Yasmin is a role model to all children in reception during class discussions, in provision and just around the classroom she is always being respectful to other children and adults. Yasmin thinks of other children throughout the day helping with even the smallest things such as finding their coat or holding a door open. Yasmin tries her best in everything she does even when she finds it a little difficult, she keeps on trying or asks for help to achieve her best. Her cheeky smile lights up our day and brings happiness into the classroom. Well done Yasmin 🙂

Year 1

David - David is always super enthusiastic about every lesson! He listens carefully and loves to share his ideas. He has been trying hard this week to listen to others and take turns too. David shows interest in every activity we do and because of this, he has a great knowledge of many things. Well done, David!

Lucy - Lucy is a shining example of how to work hard, be kind, and how to show respect. She is always ready for any lesson, she listens carefully, and she always tries her very best. This week we celebrated Safer Internet Day and Lucy was full of great ideas about how to stay safe online. Lucy, you are amazing, wonderful and smart!

Year 2

Mia and Esme - this week we have to give our Stars of the Week to two children who not only wrote amazingly thoughtful poems for well-being week, but also performed them beautifully in our poetry assembly. We are very proud of you both.

Seb - we are very proud of the way that Seb is trying really hard to complete his work and work with the other children. He always brightens the classroom with his amazing smile.

Year 3

Libby - Libby is a wonderful example of doing things the Mayflower Way. She always has a positive attitude towards learning and this is evident in the progress that she is making. Libby is able to identify and express her own emotions as well as promote the well-being of others. She always ensures that people are included and feel valued when sharing their opinions.

Keira - Keira is the definition of kindness. She has a quiet nature but this enables her to listen carefully to others and ensure that everyone feels listened to. She is a wonderful friend and always treats others the way that she would like to be treated.

Year 4

Thomas - Thomas impresses the adults in class every day with his hard work and determination. He is always kind and looks out for other children.

Maggie - Maggie is a very kind and caring member of the class who takes time to talk to other children and check in with them. Maggie is always there to help others.

Year 5

Katie is thoughtful and considerate; she always looks out for other people and often puts others before herself. She is a friend to all; demonstrating kindness all the time through the things she does and the things she says. She always treats others the way she would like to be treated. Thank you for always being you!!

Elizabeth is kind and caring and is sensitive to the feelings of others. She is very supportive of her peers and will always be there for them when they need her. Elizabeth always checks in on her friends to make sure that they are ok and will speak to an adult if she is concerned about her friends being upset or worried. You are such a good friend Elizabeth!

Year 6

This week in school, we have recognised Safer Internet Day, with some of our KS2 children taking part in a live lesson, learning all about online scams - how to identify them and what to do if they suspect a scam. With this in mind, the focus has been on those children who ensure their safety and the safety of others. This week's Stars of the Week in Year 6 have been chosen according to this:

Sophie - Sophie actively engages with absolutely every opportunity across school and this week has been no exception. Whether it be a competition, optional activity or a situation where adults are looking for volunteers, she always puts herself forwards and goes the extra mile to be involved or to support. Sophie, you are so hardworking and determined and this will take you far in life.

Kaylan - As our Y6 digital leader, Kaylan has played a key role this week in supporting our learning about online safety and how to protect ourselves, and others, from online scams. He led the Y6 response session, asking the right questions and enabling children to share their thoughts and ideas. It was so good to see you step up to take a lead role in class this week Kaylan and you did a fantastic job.

Headteacher Award

Each week in our Celebration Assembly, Mrs Powell chooses someone who has really impressed her during the week and presents them with her Headteacher Award trophy.

My superstar award, to end the half term, goes to Cameron in Year 6. She works hard each and every day but most importantly does this with utmost respect for all the adults that work in school. I have heard other parents also share how kind she is to others in and out of school by being such a wonderful friend. Cameron, you live out our core school values every day. Much deserved award!

Makaton Sign Of The Week

The children are continuing to learn Makaton's 'Sign of the week' each week. Each Monday, the children learn the new sign for that week. We thought it would be useful to share the following week's sign with parents/carers on our Friday blog so you can get involved too if you wish. Please click on the link below to see the sign for the coming week.

No Crossing Patrol Warden Doncaster Road

We have been informed by Doncaster Council that Sandra, the new Crossing Patrol Warden who recently started on Doncaster Road, won't be returning after half term. Sandra has asked us to pass on that she has enjoyed her time on the crossing and that every child and parent she has supported have all been kind and polite and made her time enjoyable.

This does mean that the crossing on Doncaster Road will not have a warden on it until further notice. The Council will be looking for a new warden and are also exploring other options that could support road safety and awareness in our area.

The Crossing Patrol team has asked us to share their current vacancies with our parents/carers. Please click on the link below.

Earrings & PE

Could we please remind parents/carers that children with earrings should either take them out on PE days or have plasters/micropore tape put over them before they come to school. Thank you in advance for your support with this.

With Me In Mind Introduction Session

As part of our commitment to promoting positive mental health in school, we work closely with With Me in Mind: an NHS national mental health team. This team work with school to develop whole school strategies for supporting the mental health of our school community as well as working 1:1 with some of our children and families.

In order to further explain their work and what they can offer to our community, our senior WMIM practitioner will be in school on Tuesday 25th February from 9 am to share their service offer with parents. Please come along if you can, grab a coffee and sit and have a listen to what the service is and what they can support with.

If you are interested, please drop us an email to admin@bawtrymayflower.doncaster.sch.uk
so that we have an idea of how many parents/carers will be attending.

Bag2School Clothing Collection Thursday 27th February

Our PTA has organised the next Bag2School clothing collection of this school year and this will take place on Thursday 27th February.

Please click on the link below to check what Bag2School accept in their clothing collections.

https://bag2school.com/what-we-collect

If you have any of the items detailed which you would like to get rid of and donate, the children should have brought an empty bag home today. If you don't have one of the Bag2School bags, a black bag will do absolutely fine.

Please bring your filled bags to school on Thursday 27th February and leave them in front of the building outside our Foundation classroom, on the patch of grass opposite the shed. There will already be some bags in that area by the time parents/carers start arriving, so it will be obvious where they need to be left.

Bag2School will weigh the bags and our PTA will receive payment dependent on the total weight of all the bags. We will share how much was raised on an upcoming blog.

On Tuesday 4th March, we will be holding the final of our school Danum Read Aloud competition. Our Key Stage 2 children have been invited to take part and those that are chosen will select their favourite from a selection of extracts available. They will then perform to Key Stage 2 and the winners will go through to the school final on Tuesday 4th March. The overall winner will then go through to the Doncaster final at Danum Museum and Art Gallery on 27th March.

On Wednesday 5th March, Boggledybook Children's Bookshop will be in school during the school day.

For our World Book Day celebrations on Friday 7th March, we would like the children to dress up as their favourite Roald Dahl character. There is no expectation for parents/carers to spend a significant amount of money on a costume for their child - please try and utilise what you have at home wherever possible.

Also on Friday 7th March, to round off our week of everything book-related, we would like to invite our families in for 'Breakfast with a book'. Parents and carers are invited in to school to share a special reading session with their children. Whether it's enjoying a book together, listening to your child read, or reading to them, immerse yourself in the joy of literacy while savouring a delightful breakfast. It's a wonderful opportunity to strengthen the bond through the magic of storytelling. Further details will follow regarding this.

Year 2 National Emergency Services Museum Takeover

This half term, our Year 2 children spent the day immersed in their topic covering The Great Fire of London when they were visited by Emma from the National Emergency Services Museum. Our lower hall was transformed into London from the time of the Great Fire and the children learnt all about how the fire started and how it was dealt with. The workshop was very hands on and took the children through each stage of what took place, which they thoroughly enjoyed!

Year 1 visit

Our Year 1 children recently had a visit from a nurse from DRI, so that they could compare her to Florence Nightingale. The children asked the nurse lots of excellent questions and they now all want to work in a hospital!

Key Stage 1 Road Safety

Our Year 1 and Year 2 children recently had a visit from Dan from The Riot Act to do some work around road safety. Dan used puppets to provide an entertaining and informative age-appropriate session for the children around this very important topic.

Prostrike Fundraising Event

Following on from our Prostrike fundraising event last week, we are thrilled to be able to share with our families that the event raised a staggering £1807.68 towards school funds. Thank you so much to everyone who managed to secure sponsorship for the children.

The prizes arrived in school this week, so if your child should have received a prize and hasn't brought it home this week they will bring it home after half term.

Here are a few photos of the event itself. The children have still been talking about the event this week, so clearly had a great time taking part!

Singing Superstars!

Yesterday, our choir took part in the Young Voices concert at Sheffield Utilita Arena. After an early afternoon rehearsal, the children enjoyed their tea before the concert started. What an amazing experience for everyone involved! The children were a credit to their families and were a pleasure to be with at the event. Thank you for the lovely feedback about the concert. We know the children loved it and hope that many of them will take part again in the future. Some of the children have shared their thoughts on the concert with us.

Ella - at first it was quite nerve-wracking, but when we were sat in the concert all the audience was blacked out so it felt like a practise. We all believed in ourselves and did it! We got to meet Urban Strides. They did a bit of a cheer where they threw a person up in the air and caught her.

Evelyn - my favourite bit was doing the Mexican waves!

Evie - my favourite bit was all of it! I thought it was better than last year because we did more waves. I liked the songs better this year too.

Libby - I was a bit nervous at first. I liked all of it and want to do it again next year!
