Stars of the week

Each week in our Friday Celebration Assembly, we celebrate our stars of the week. Each class teacher chooses 2 children from their class each week who have really impressed them. Here are the children who have been chosen this week.

Nursery

Alf has been chosen as star of the week for this week because he has really impressed Miss Hoggart and Miss Limb with his measuring skills. This week we have been pretending that noodles were worms and had to make worms that were longer and shorter than. Some of the instructions were really tricky, but Alf was really good at listening and then making the right length worm! Well done Alf.

Alma has been chosen as star of the week because of how creative she has been in our cutting and sticking area. She always has some really imaginative and creative ideas that she is good at sharing with others and creating a range of different things. She even made her own crown to wear for the school disco!

Reception

This week’s kindness superstar has been spreading smiles everywhere he goes from the moment he comes into school to when he leaves at the end of the day! He is always looking after his friends, checking in with them and making everyone feel warm and welcome in the classroom. He is so much more confident in believing in himself, showing us his brilliant ideas and feeling proud of who he is and the work he is doing. His caring heart makes our classroom a happier place every single day. Keep shining Charlie, we’re so proud of you 🙂

This week, during Children’s Mental Health Week, our star has shown everyone what it means to love and be kind to yourself and others. She has been wonderfully kind to her friends, offering help, gentle words, and caring actions whenever someone needed it. She is always on hand to give the biggest hugs that make everyone feel like they belong in our classroom. She has also been growing in confidence and believing in herself trying again with her writing when she has found it tricky. Her thoughtful nature makes our classroom a happier place to learn. Well done Ava 🙂

Year 1

This week we have been thinking about those who love and care for others and themselves.

Luna and Noah are two children who show this in so many ways. They show love for all members of their family, including their siblings, in the way they talk so enthusiastically about them. They show care and compassion for others in the classroom, comforting anyone who is hurt or upset. They  make everyone they meet feel special with their hugs, kind words, compliments and beaming smiles.

Thank you both for being such kind and caring people.

Year 2

This week, our Stars of the Week are two wonderful members of Year 2 who show what it means to care for and love others.

Luke and Louie always go out of their way to help their friends by sharing, including others in their games, helping to tidy up, encouraging others, and using thoughtful and gentle words. They notice when others need support and step in without being asked. They help make our classroom a happier and more caring place to be. Well done, Luke and Louie. You are both shining examples of what it means to have a kind heart.

Year 3

This week we have been thinking about those who love and care for others and themselves.

Thomas is a very kind and caring member of our class. He is patient with the partners he works with and always treats others with care and compassion. He is a good friend, looking out for others in the classroom and in the playground. Thomas has a great sense of humour and he tells some very funny jokes to cheer people up. Keep being you, Thomas!

Gabriel is a member of Year 3 who will always stick up for other children. He cares for his friends and is kind to all the children in class. Gabe can recognise when someone needs a kind word and goes out of his way to cheer people up. He has really impressed us recently with his determination to read and we have loved talking to him about his dog book! Keep smiling, Gabe!

Year 4

This week's theme for Stars of the Week was determined by our Head Boy and Head Girl. Following the theme of belonging for Children's Mental Health Week 2026, and in light of St. Valentines Day, they decided that the most appropriate theme would be: 'Those who care for/love others and themselves.' This week's Stars of the Week in Year 4 have been chosen with this in mind.

Keira - Keira is a kind and compassionate member of our class. She is a quiet advocate for others and is empathetic towards all. Keira comes to school with a smile on her face and lights up every room she walks into. She always greets adults with a hug and asks how they are. Keira - your kindness and high levels of respect are greatly appreciated.

Noah J - Noah is an enthusiastic child, who has a passion for learning. He is keen to make progress in all that he does and this is evident through his continued positive attitude towards learning. Noah spreads kindness in all that he does and is a fantastic friend to his peers. This week, he has shown empathy towards others and has enabled everyone to feel a sense of belonging.

Year 5

“In a world where you can be anything, be kind.”

Belle is a caring and compassionate child who treats everyone with kindness and respect. She helps classmates when they struggle, invites others to join her so no one feels left out, and always speaks with encouraging words. Belle is a loyal and thoughtful friend who makes others feel valued and supported each day. We are lucky to have her as part of our Year 5 family.

Mae is the kind of child who quietly makes every classroom brighter. She notices when someone is alone and invites them to join her, and if a classmate is struggling with their work, she patiently offers help.  She treats everyone with compassion and shows kindness to everyone she meets. We are lucky to have her as part of our Year 5 family.

Year 6

This week's theme for Stars of the Week was determined by our Head Boy and Head Girl. Following the theme of belonging for Children's Mental Health Week 2026, and in light of St. Valentines Day, they decided that the most appropriate theme would be: 'Those who care for/love others and themselves.' This week's Stars of the Week in Year 6 have been chosen with this in mind.

Oliver SC - Oliver is always unapologetically himself; he is confident in who he is and he always lets his true colours shine through. He comes into school every day with a big smile on his face and a funny story that brightens our day. He can always be replied upon to cheer people up when they need it and loves making other people laugh or making them little gifts that he has hand-made. His friends are incredibly lucky to have him as he will literally do anything for them, always showing what a caring, loving and compassionate member of Year 6 he really is.

Noah - Noah is a kind and caring member of Year 6 who can always be relied upon to treat all others with compassion, understanding and respect. He shows the same kindness to everyone he meets - whether this be members of his class, younger children across school, or adults and members of our wider school community. He comes in to school every day with a smile on his face that lights up the room and he loves to tell jokes or little funny stories that just brightens our day. He is a loyal and supportive friend to all and we are incredibly lucky to have him as part of our Year 6 family.

Headteacher Award & Shout Outs

Each week in our Celebration Assembly, Mrs Powell chooses someone who has really impressed her during the week and presents them with her Headteacher Award. As it is Children’s Mental Health week, I asked Katie and Laroti (our Head Girl and Head Boy) to choose this week’s Star of the Week theme. They decided on something very important linked to the theme belonging. They’ve chosen ‘those who can show love and care for others and/or themselves’. The children have embraced this in so many ways including a ‘love tree’ in year 4 created using secret santa style activity where each child has seen a heart appear on the tree to tell them why they are amazing and why they belong. The children always surprise me in such imaginative ways on how to help and support each other. With this in mind, my Superstar award this week goes to Oliwia W (Y6). She is kind, caring and thoughtful in every action. She supports others – even when no-one is watching! Well done Oliwia on this award.

My ‘shout-outs’ for giving 100% to the MAYFLOWER WAY this week go to Laroti (Y4), Olivia Finch (Y5), Axel (Rec), Ava (Rec) and Ada (Y1). Well done!

Makaton Sign Of The Week

The children are continuing to learn Makaton's 'Sign of the week' each week. Each Monday, the children learn the new sign for that week. We thought it would be useful to share the following week's sign with parents/carers on our Friday blog so you can get involved too if you wish.

Parking around school

Again this week, we have had complaints regarding parking and unsafe driving by some parents/carers who are dropping off/picking up their children. Please ensure that you park with consideration and drive with care. One caller said she had witnessed a buggy nearly getting knocked over. As always, these reports have been passed on.

Step into the NHS

We have had a couple of volunteers for our Step into the NHS sessions. If you or someone you know plays a valuable role in the NHS and would like to speak to our children about it, please get in touch with the school office.

As a reminder, during the week of 9th -13th March we are joining a national campaign called ‘Step into the NHS’ which showcases the amazing work done by so many to spark curiosity and inspire the next generation of NHS professionals. This is part of a developing career’s programme in school. We would love the children to hear directly from anyone who could share stories (or even share interesting pictures, items or equipment) about what your role involves and how / why you decided to do the job that you/they do. These would be short interactive sessions with a class / or mini presentations to a group etc. If you would like further information or can offer dates / times for that week please contact the school office by Friday 13th February. We can’t wait to see who we get to hear from!
