Stars of the week
Each week in our Friday Celebration Assembly, we celebrate our stars of the week. Each class teacher chooses 2 children from their class each week who have really impressed them. Here are the children who have been chosen this week.
Nursery & Reception
In Nursery this week we have chosen Billy as star of the week. Billy has been trying really hard to work hard and listen on the carpet. Billy has earnt lots of stickers and stamps on his chart because he has been putting in so much effort!
Hughie has also been chosen for star of the week in Nursery this week. The adults have noticed Hughie has been trying really hard with his writing and morning tasks. He is engaging with his learning and interacting more with his peers.
We have chosen three stars of the week this week for Reception. Our first star of the week has been a super star at listening this week; she has made sure she has always been ready to learn, showing all her friends how to sit on the carpet the Mayflower way. She has been a kind friend making sure others feel included and valued. She has also been a fantastic helper in the classroom this week. Well done Rosa 🙂
Our next two stars of the week have shown huge progress in their writing. They have shown us such positive attitudes to their learning and enthusiasm for their next challenge. Well done Jaycee and Bethany 🙂
Year 1
This week, our stars of the week are... everybody! The whole of Year 1 deserves huge recognition for how hard they have been working this week, and all year, on their phonics. The Year 1 staff and the Read Write Inc teachers have loved watching you all become such fantastic readers throughout the year. You have all done some special reading work with Mrs Ward this week, and she had such a huge smile on her face after hearing each and every one of you spotting your special friends, Fred Talking and reading the words. We are all bursting with pride! Well done, Year One!
Year 2
This week we have been thinking about how important it is to work hard. Sometimes we may struggle and find things tricky and other times we may lack motivation and not be in the mood, but these children have shown with perseverance and dedication, their hard work can really pay off.
At the beginning of Year 2, Blu-Belle would worry about her maths. However, she has worked really hard to overcome her fears. She is now eager to learn new strategies and apply them. It is wonderful to see her beaming smile when she conquers new things. Well done, Blu-Belle.
Lais has shown that focusing, giving things a try and working really hard really can have a big impact on what you can achieve. She is increasingly willing to have a go, try new strategies and make improvements to her work independently. Keep up the good work, Lais.
Year 3
Tommy - Tommy understands the importance of working hard. He works hard in class and is a very supportive partner. He thinks carefully about what he is going to say before contributing to class discussions. Tommy's explanations of some maths reasoning questions this week were precise, accurate and incredibly helpful!
Olive - Olive works hard in every lesson. She is focussed on her learning and always tries her best to produce high quality work. Olive is always ready for a challenge and she pushes herself to be successful at all times in Year 3. Excellent!
Year 4
Maddie D and Layla: This week, we have been working on creating portraits for the art gallery taking place in school. Maddie and Layla have shown that hard work and dedication really pay off. They have worked hard to ensure that their mark making techniques are as effective as they can be. I am really proud of their positive outlook this week and I can't wait for everyone to see their amazing portraits.
Year 5
"A dream doesn't become reality through magic; it takes sweat, determination and hard work!"
This week, Charlotte has worked hard in every lesson and has shown real determination to improve her learning. She has been approaching challenges with a positive attitude and pushing herself beyond her comfort zone. Well done Charlotte, keep up the hard work!
This week, Harry has come in to school each day with a smile on his face and a positive, 'can-do' attitude. He is beginning to recognise that each day is an opportunity to be better and to do better and he pushes himself to do just that. Keep it up!
Year 6
This week across school, our focus has been on one of our important school rules: Word Hard. Adults have been looking out for those children who embody this in every lesson, giving their all day in and day out to do the best that they possibly can. This week's Stars of the Week in Year 6 have been chosen with this in mind.
Freddie and Adomas - I have been so impressed with the work ethic of both boys so far this half-term. Our focus in Year 6 has been on writing and although this might not be their favourite subject, they have put 100% effort into every single lesson and the progress in their writing has been incredible as a result. They have both produced two outstanding pieces these last two weeks and I could not be prouder of them. They have worked hard in all other subjects across the curriculum and this effort really has paid off. Amazing work - keep it up.
Headteacher Award
Each week in our Celebration Assembly, Mrs Powell chooses someone who has really impressed her during the week and presents them with her Headteacher Award trophy.
The theme this week was linked to our school rule – work hard. We talked about doing all we do in school the Mayflower Way; Work hard and try your best in all that you do. This week’s Superstar Award goes to Max in Reception. He has really shone in doing this, in and out of the classroom. His quiet, positive attitude shines out in all he does in school and he is a joy to talk to about all the amazing facts he knows. Well done Max!
Makaton Sign Of The Week
The children are continuing to learn Makaton's 'Sign of the week' each week. Each Monday, the children learn the new sign for that week. We thought it would be useful to share the following week's sign with parents/carers on our Friday blog so you can get involved too if you wish. Please click on the link below to see the sign for the coming week.

Parent Voice Survey
We are delighted to share some exciting news with you.
Following our recent expression of interest, we have been selected as one of only eight schools in Doncaster to take part in the PINS (Partnership for Inclusion of Neurodiversity in Schools) project—a national innovation initiative focused on developing and strengthening inclusive practices in schools.
As part of the project, we will be working closely with many specialist services across Doncaster, including Doncaster Parents Voice (DPV). To help us identify our priorities and make sure we are meeting the needs of all our pupils, we would really appreciate it if you would complete a survey by clicking on the following link or by scanning the QR code below.
https://forms.office.com/e/e6404RRSU3
Your feedback is invaluable and will play a key role in shaping the next steps of our inclusion journey. By sharing your experiences and views, you will help us ensure that our school is a place where every child feels understood, supported, and included.
We are extremely grateful to have been chosen for this opportunity and look forward to seeing the positive impact it will have on our pupils, staff, and wider school community.
Sports Day Wednesday 18th June
As advised previously in the diary dates on our weekly blog and in our recent email, our Sports Day will take place this year on the morning of next Wednesday, 18th June as follows:
Year 1 to Year 6 - 9.30am to 11am
Nursery & Reception - 11am to 11.45am
The gates will be locked at the normal time of 8.50am next Wednesday, so please ensure that you have left the school playground by that time. If you will be joining us for Sports Day, please arrive back at the school office from 9.20am so the office staff can let you through to where the event will take place. Please enter the school grounds via the Station Road entrance.
We look forward to seeing you next Wednesday.
Summer Fair Thursday 19th June
We are really looking forward to our PTA's Summer Fair which will be held next Thursday, 19th June from 3.10pm to 5pm. There will be a wide range of stalls at the fair - lots of games, bouncy castles, refreshments including an ice-cream van.
Tokens are available for the fair from members of our PTA who will be on the stage area (the area next to the ramp leading up to the Key Stage 2 playground) each morning and afternoon next week. Tokens are priced at £5 for 10. Tokens are also available to purchase at the fair itself.
Thank you to everyone who has donated sweets and chocolate for the Treat Tombola - we have been overwhelmed by the response and are extremely grateful for all these donations.
Please come along to the fair if you can. These events take a huge amount of organising and our PTA raises valuable funds for extra activities and experiences for the children. Without these funds, we would not be able to provide these 'extras' for the children.
Colour Run Thursday 17th July 1.15pm
Letters will be coming home with the children at the beginning of next week for our PTA's Colour Run which will be held on the afternoon of Thursday 17th July. For those not familiar with a colour run, it is a fun event where everyone starts wearing a white t-shirt. They follow the course round and at various points everyone is doused with different coloured powder paints. At the end of the event, everyone will be covered in a rainbow of paint! Last year’s event was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone who took part, so we are hoping that as many families as possible will be able to join us on 17th July.
There will be a deadline on the letter for the reply slip and payment to be returned. Please ensure that if your child would like to take part, that their reply slip and payment is returned by that deadline, as we cannot accept any late reply slips.
Uniform orders for September
We are now accepting orders for uniform for September. If you would like to order any uniform ready for September, please log on to ParentPay to order your items before Friday 11th July.
The uniform will then be available to collect from the school office on Friday 29th August between 8am and 3pm.
We cannot guarantee that any orders received after Friday 11th July will be available for collection before the children start back in September, so it is really important that you order on time.
If you order any uniform and the item is for your child to have this term rather than for September, please email admin@bawtrymayflower.doncaster.sch.uk to let us know.
Dinner Money Balances
Could those parents/carers who pay for school dinners please ensure that there is enough money in their child's ParentPay dinner money account to pay for at least one weeks meals please. We have quite a few outstanding balances at the moment and cannot allow this to continue long-term.
If you need to discuss an outstanding balance, please contact the office staff or come and speak to Mrs Powell.
School meals for children in Year 3 and above
Currently, children in Year 2 and below receive a free school meal each day under the Government's Universal Infant Free School Meal Scheme. Once children move into Year 3, there is a charge for each school dinner (unless families are entitled to benefits-related Free School Meals); this is currently £3 per meal.
If your child will be in Year 3 from September and you wish them to continue to have a school dinner each day, please ensure that their dinner money account on ParentPay is credited with at least £15 (the cost of one weeks meals). You can of course pay for more than this should you wish to. There is also the option of Auto Top-up on ParentPay. This is where parents/carers can set a minimum level at which their balance is automatically topped up with their chosen amount from their bank account, meaning that their child's ParentPay account never has an outstanding balance owing.
Spare clothes
Thank you to everyone who has donated uniform etc. We now have plenty to use as spares, so the only uniform donations we can now accept are cardigans/jumpers with the school logo on and school ties. These will be passed on to our PTA to sell in their preloved online shop.
We would really appreciate any donations of pants, socks and tights please. These are the items that are used the most and our stocks of these are running really low. If you have any of these items that you are willing to donate, please bring them to the school office.
Book Donations
Thank you to everyone who has donated books for our libraries and classrooms. We now have plenty to keep us going thank you, but we will pop something on our weekly blog in the future should we need more donations.
PTA Gifts for a loved one shop
Thank you to our PTA who held their 'Gifts for a loved one' shop yesterday. The choice of gifts was vast and we know that the children loved being able to visit the shop to choose their own gifts and have them wrapped. We hope those who receive the gifts this weekend know that they were chosen with love from the children. Our PTA has asked us to let parents/carers know that some of the children did notice some Christmas items in the cupboards where the event was being held and some of them were very adamant that those items were what they wanted to purchase for their loved one, so maybe one or two of you will receive an early Christmas gift this weekend!
Thank you to our PTA for organising the event and to those who helped on the day. The shops that are held are some of our most popular events and we are very lucky to have such a wonderful and supportive PTA.
