Home Learning in Year 1 and 2

Date: 3rd Apr 2023 @ 1:35pm

Each week, children in Year 1 and 2 have some activities at home to support their learning.

Reading

Read to an adult at least 3 times per week. This earns tickets towards our termly reading challenge.

You can read your RWI book which you read at school last week or your RWI Home reading book.

It's great to read, so let us know what else you are reading at home.

Don't forget to write a comment in your child's reading record!

Phonics

Practice your phonemes using your RWI Set 1 Sounds if you are in Ditties group.

Practice your phonemes using your RWI Set 2 and 3 Sounds if you are in any other RWI groups.

Use you little RWI Speed Sounds books (let us know if you can't find them).

The more you practise, the more confident you will be!

Spelling

Use your "Look, say. cover, write, check" sheets to practice your spellings ready for Friday. We send this home each week.

Some children will have spellings with specific sounds and Red Words. to learn. Others will have words using our spelling rules and Red Words.

The children will have a spelling test each Friday. We will put this in their home-school book so you can see how they have done.

Maths

Practice your arithmetic.

Complete Mild, Hot or Spicy on the sheet which is sent home on a Friday.

You can put your answers on the sheet then send it back to school.

Practice your times tables.

Go to:

Times tables Speed Test X - Timestables.co.uk

Click on the times tables you want to practice. You can do one at a time or select as many as you like!

Year 1 focus on 1, 2 and 10.

Year 2 focus on 1, 2, 5 and 10.

Challenge yourself to do others too, if you like!

Good luck!

Have fun!
